Oo-er, looks like I'm fighting Striker next. He's pretty legendary on the ARC circuit, so I'd definitely be in trouble if I was fighting his old design, but thankfully this one looks relatively new and untested. Dreadnought's been changed quite a bit as well since he last appeared, so let's see if he has what it takes to beat him. Analysis The key thing to notice on the new Striker is that big set of lawnmower-like spinning blades on the front- with the correct purchase, they could do some damage, and in terms of his appearance, he looks like he'll be able to resist flipping alone decently enough with the 4WD invertible wheelbase and "Dune Buggy" tyres. Surprisingly enough though, that's all he really has going for him against Dreadnought at this point. Firstly, in terms of my design- not only am I both faster and have particularly better traction than he does, my 2WD means my manoeuvrability and wedges will be particularly effective against him, and even my torque is higher, so I'll be able to push him effectively- surprisingly enough considering it's usually the other way round. My chassis is very tough and angular on almost all sides, so it'll generally be very hard for him to gain purchase on me with vertical blades of his type (Against wedges of such angles, they'd scratch the paintwork at best.), and I'll be able to effectively nerf them by turning him over- if they spin down rather than up, he won't be able to get under and turn me over with them. Now in terms of Striker's design- without trying to sound too cocky about it, he doesn't really seem adapted to fight flippers. His hinged wedge (Ergo, the effective range of his weapon.) should not be too hard to get underneath in even a head-on collision, and his big ground clearance and lack of wedge protection anywhere else (The areas with the spikes on will be particularly easy to slide my wedge under.) means he'll be very vulnerable to getting wedged under, trapped and flipped due to both my weapon and the polycarbonate strip along the top. As mentioned earlier as well, his weaponry can be more-or-less nullified by turning him over, he's a bit slower and has worse traction/pushability than I do, but what's more, his armour is only 5. He has that 7-powered bumper granted, but it's not what I'm aiming for, and there's not a great deal he can use it for anyway. Strategy Now that that's covered, time for my battle plan. Move out quickly, and approach Striker from an angle, preferably from around the sides or corners of his hinge wedge- by doing that, I'll be able to bypass his weapon and get underneath immediately. Watch to see where he approaches from as I do so however, and make sure he doesn't get the sides. Once I'm fully under, quickly turn him over with my Flipper to nullify his Blades and make him safer to attack. If I can follow up by getting underneath him again immediately, by all means do so. Once I've flipped him over or am at least underneath him, that's where I can really begin to attack him. Use my superior torque, drive and wedgeability factor to keep him underneath or at least forced onto the defence at all times, come at him from different angles each time, and be both aggressive and controlled. If I've already flipped him so he's spinning downwards rather than upwards, prioritise ramming him and only flipping him in order to slam him into a wall/Drum or box him into a hazard. If not, flip him over first. In terms of Hazards, prioritise using the Drum to warp his Spikes and Wedge to make it easier to get under (And perhaps use a run-up and a big flip to launch him into it for extra potential for damage and points.), and the Pulverisers to smash in his 5-armoured chassis. I can also try using the Killsaws as well to rip up his big pneumatic tyres if I have a chance, but try not to put myself at unnecessary risk to do so. The main thing to remember when defending against him will be to not give my vulnerable areas any exposure to his Blades, and to minimise his chances of using them in general- Aggressive Defence, you could say. Keep underneath him as much as I can, throw him around a lot to do damage to his internals, and as mentioned beforehand, come at him from different areas each time to constantly keep him guessing and force him to defend himself. Also, keep the sides well-protected, have at least one wedge facing him at all times, and avoid approaching him directly from the front. Other than that, employ my usual tactics- keep constantly moving and unpredictable in my approaches, keep away from the hazards if I'm not taking him to them myself, and above all, be careful as well as aggressive. Don't fall for any hazard-baiting tactics, for instance. Overall, I'll want to be both controlled and aggressive. Employ my better traction and manoeuvrability to bypass his weaponry, and from there keep him on his back as much as possible. Be unpredictable in my approaches to keep underneath and force him onto the defence the whole time, and from there ram and flip him all around the Arena , utilising the environment to my advantage to punish his lack of wedge defences and gradually break down his thinly-armoured chassis. Ideally I want to be able to KO him on damage, but I'd be perfectly happy with beating him via Aggression and Strategy, too. Anyway, I know I've ended up going into crazy-detailed RPing mode somewhat, but I'd consider this one match that I'd like to win- after I lost to Striker three years ago, a chance to settle the score is very welcome indeed. Good luck though Area51, let's make this one a good fight. |

He's got slightly better drive and slightly more torque. Thankfully, since torque is my main weak spot, he isn't going to overpower me there. The big thing here, though, is that I have more weapon than his armor, so if I deal enough damage to his chassis, he will start to deteriorate after awhile. The challenge is getting under him, of course. His wedge looks low but it'll be impossible to tell who will get under who until the match begins. With that being said... I will start off in typical Striker fashion by box rushing him with the wedge. Now, one of two things are likely to happen. First, I could get under him, which means, the combination of my charge, vertical bar rack and forward momentum would deal one hell of a blow to his underbelly and probably launch him up (maybe even flip him, but who knows). Combine that with slamming him into the wall (yeah, I don't have much torque, but certainly enough if his wheels have been elevated). The other possibility is that he gets under me. In this scenario, I will slide up his wedge so fast, I doubt he'd be able to time it just right. Instead, I'll probably be at the rear of his flipper where his extended lip is. With my vertical blades very close to his lip, once he fires the flipper - chances are that lip will hit the underside of my blade and hence cause some damage. His lip is the most notable part of his flipper and if I can mess it up, it'll look good for the judges. PLUS, if he does indeed launch me int the air - he might be risking me landing on him in a deadly way. Meaning, if my blades strike him upon landing, he'll do a lot more damage to his top armor. Using that lifter/flipper could indeed backfire! Once I have a comfortable position under him, the plan is to smack him around with my bar rack while also taking him to the hazards. Since I don't have much torque, whatever hazards are closest will suffice. Drum or saws would be prefer, but I won't be too picky. If I can utilize my spinning bar rack to the fullest, and also score some damage from the hazards, Striker might have a chance at a KO. There's also that my blades were intended to flip bots over - this could prove particularly problematic for him if I get him flipped since he has to re-right himself before he can move away. Basically, once I get him flipped, wedge under him ASAP and tear into him some more while he's trying to re-right himself. If I play my cards right, he won't be able to recover and reposition himself before I continue to chew into him with my blades. There's also the matter of whether he flips me. It's not as big of a deal for me since I'm fully inverted. The only difference is my blades will spin the other way. Unfortunately, this means I won't be able to pop him up. However, I can still charge into him and strike him with the blades and continue to cause damage. Basically, try to prevent getting myself inverted and use my spinning bar rack to the it's fullest potential. Once I get him on the wedge and start to tear into him, I'll be well-situated to dominate the rest of the match hopefully. Good luck! |
