Track: Nashville Superspeedway

Event: Pepsi 300

The Pepsi 300 marks Johns first career NBS start
Johns serves as the team engineer when not driving the No. 25 FreeCreditReport.com Fusion.
Johns, who is a long-time employee of Team Rensi Motorsports, worked with the team while attending UNC-Charlotte and was promoted to Head Engineer upon graduation from the institution with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. This season, he got the break he was looking for - the No. 25 team needed someone to assume driving duties at 11 NASCAR Busch Series events and looked to Johns to fill the seat.

Johns on his first career NBS start:

“This is what I’ve been waiting for my whole life. All I’ve ever wanted to do since I was a kid was drive a race car. It will be a dream come true to race in the Busch Series. When I think about all of the great drivers who got their starts in this Series, It’s hard to believe that I’ll be a part of that.

“Most importantly, I want to win the respect of my team and the other competitors. I want everyone to see that they can trust me on the track – that I’ll race hard but clean. I want Nashville to set the precedent of what everyone can expect from here out.

“It means a lot to me that my team put me behind the wheel. They could have taken a ton of other drivers, but they chose me. Now it’s my job to give them all I’ve got and do all I can to get the FreeCreditReport.com Ford up front.”

Crew chief Todd Brewer on Johns’ first start:

“The whole team is excited about Richard (Johns) taking the wheel. It’s cool to think that one of the guys on our team is getting a shot to drive the car. Richard’s been a huge part of the team and contributed so much to it through the years. He’s one of the reasons for our organization’s success and hopefully he will only add to it as a driver.”

“He definitely knows the car back and forth. His background as a mechanic and engineer will help him as a driver. He knows how to describe how the car’s handling on the track and he can recommend adjustments to make it better. That will be a huge asset.”
