Rhydra waited patiently in her darkened garden. Whenever Galyna requested a meeting with the Nharkava Queen it was always at night. It did not bother Rhydra in the least and she sat in her darkened garden alone sipping calming chamomile tea and admiring her flowers which danced in the light breeze. Fireflies drifted from each bloom to the next as if performing a fragrant mating dance with each other. Rhydra’s whole body relaxed in the uncommonly cool night and the contrasting warm tea melted through her veins.

“My Lady?” called Symon from her room across the garden. He always worried when she met with the High Priestess of Hell. She knew that he thoroughly disagreed with her alliance with Galyna and thought her involvement with the Meadowbrook boarding school questionable as well, but he kept his opinions to himself. Rhydra had always thought it curious why he didn’t like Meadowbrook. When she tried to question him he always avoided the subject and so she wondered if it had less to do with her and more to do with his own past.

“Yes, Symon?” she answered after a few moments of irritated silence. To be truthful, she liked that he checked up on her as much as he did, but another part of her felt as though he thought she couldn’t handle herself. She was Queen and with that title came the rights and responsibilities of one. She had a Territory to run and with the years between her mother and grandmother’s death Nharkhava had been like a boat without a rudder. It had flowed with the times and though it had been gently guided by Galyna, Rhydra hoped to lead her beloved Territory to a Golden Age. However, she wasn’t sure that it could happen with out the help of the High Priestess of Hell. Her grandmother, a smart and noble woman, had trusted the woman and Rhydra believed in her grandmother’s moral compass because it had produced Symon, did it not?

"Has she arrived yet, Mistress?" he asked from the bright doorway of her private quarters. Symon was the only man allowed to enter her private quarters which had always worried her Steward. He had spent long nights explaining to her that she would need to take a Consort should she decide to rule Nharkhava. She had agreed, but she hadn't expected Symon to push the subject further. She would take a consort when she was ready, but Symon seemed to think it was imperative she take one now. Their thoughts differed on the subject, but as always Rhydra's opinion was the one that counted.

"No, Symon, she has not. And I'm sure she wouldn't appreciate a peeping Tom. Go to bed, Symon, I'll speak with you in the morning." Rhydra was more curt than she had intended, but she knew Symon would know that she was just tired. He had always forgiven her her dark moods and snippy comments. He had always described it as a female thing, and told her stories of her mother, Imogene. Rhydra had always found it curious the way that Symon spoke of her mother... it was like a painful longing went through him. Perhaps he like those years better... he was younger, her grandmother was a strong Queen. Whether he knew it or not, Symon was one of the driving factors that Rhydra wanted to create a Golden Age for her people.

Galyna watched the child Queen from a distance and pondered her work of the last few decades here. She looked for any flaws in her plans, in her work, in the result. After a few moments, she found that she was satisfied with them even if she was a bit disappointed in the result. She had suck high hopes for this Queen, this Opal jeweled Black Widow that reminded her so much of herself. Maybe the only major mistake in taking of this territory had been in the handling of this Queen. True she wanted the Queen to hate and distrust the male race but what had been done to her was unacceptable, and the Head of Meadowbrook had suffered because of it. He learned that when she gave him an order not to over step his bounds. She wanted the Queen carefully handled and the man butchered her instead. Which was good because she was about to put another little darling in his school.

Shaking her head, the High Priestess and ruler of Hell stepped in to the light of the moon. “Good evening, sister,” the older woman greeted the woman with a smile and a slight nod of her head. “It is a lovely evening tonight and I am so gracious that you would indulge me at this late hour.” A little bit of sweetness and flattery always helped a meeting with those that she claimed as her own. “How are you this evening, my dear sister? I hope I come and find both you and Nharkhava well this evening.”

Rhydra looked up at the High Priestess’s arrival and smiled brightly in greeting. She stood and motioned to a seat across from her where Galyna could sit. She had to admit that it was odd that each time she saw the High Priestess she looked the same. “Good evening, my sister,” she replied as she took her seat and waved toward the windows of her manor to alert the staff that she would like refreshments brought out. She shifted her skirts and crossed one thigh over the other. It was a lovely evening and it brought a smile to Rhydra’s lips to hear the High Priestess of Hell say so.

“I am well and Nharkhava is faring better than ever.” Rhydra did not say that it was because of the trade agreements that she had set up with Galyna in exchange for favors that were happening in Meadowbrook. The district Queens were already mutinous over the fact that the school remained under Rhydra’s control instead of the district Queen’s. The Palisade was busy for the first time in years and it was all because of the agreements that Rhydra had made with Galyna.

After their courteous greetings to each other, a member of Rhydra’s staff made their way slowly through the twisting garden with a platter of sweetmeats, red wine, and yarbarah. Rhydra herself didn’t drink the stuff, but kept a stock of it for these late night visits from Nharkhava’s benefactor. She nodded to the boy who poured her a liberal glass of red wine. “Which would you like, m’lady?” She wanted to give Galyna a choice as to what she wanted to drink. Rhydra picked over the sweetmeats on the platter before selecting a combination of ingredients that included some very exotic foods. She honestly had Galyna to thank for that as their ports were seeing trading business for the first time in years, but it was not enough for Rhydra.

“What brings you to Nharkhava this night?” Truthfully, Rhydra wanted to find a way to create more trade pacts with more territories and districts and Rhydra was willing to give just about anything for it.

Galyna smiled politely at the Queen as she looked over the drinks offered. Selecting the Yarbarah, she watched the boy pour the wonderful liquid into the glass. “That is always good to hear. It pleases me to no end that things are going well.” Taking a few drinks of the blood wine, she watched as the servants moved about the garden. She didn’t worry that they might waggle their tongues, but it pays to be cautious.

“Well, I came to ask a favor.” The High Priestess of Hell said after a few moments to think about her response to that question. She had come here for a few reasons, but the most pressing was to allow her little weapon to be set out in the open. “I have a friend that I was hoping could stay here until he found a court to join.” He was a lovely man, one that the Queen had groomed to be exquisitely handsome. “He graduated not to long ago from Meadowbrook and has sort of been drifting about lately.” She paused for a second as she gave the Queen a knowing smile, “And I promised his father I would give him some directions… In fact, he is just around the bend waiting for our call.”

She, then, leaned a forward a bit, “Plus, he has always had a small crush on you.” There was a sparkle in her eye that had an eerie sort of look to it. “And to help sweeten the deal, maybe when he finds his court, he could put in a good word for you. He is quite the persuasive when he wants to be,” she paused for a second and lowered her voice a bit more, “if you know what I mean.”

Alistair had been waiting for Galyna to speak of him, knowing that would be the cue for his entrance to the conversation between the High Priestess and the Queen of Nharkhava. He had been waiting in the shadows behind a set of tall bushes, his arms crossed over his lap as he stared across the narrow path on which he stood at a rose bush, the thorns visible from the soft glow of lights in windows and the stars above. He rolled his eyes at the way Galyna spoke of him, making him seem like a male prostitute instead of a red jeweled Warlord Prince whose blood had run pure for hundreds of years, Queens and Consorts counted among his ancestors. He was no pleasure slave, however convincing he might be after just one night spent in a Queen's bed. Being with that annoying District Queen Raychel had proven that. She might now be a staunch supported of Rhydra's rule over the Territory, but it had been mostly because she was obsessed with him.

He silently stepped out of the darkness and walked to Galyna's side, his red Jewel catching a glimmer of light from a window above the garden, showing his power for just a fraction of a second. Alistair smiled down at Rhydra as he walked forward. "Hello there, my Queen," he said in a sickly sweet manner. "It is such a pleasure to meet you after so long of having admired you from a far, I hope you know. I hope Galyna has not told you too many things about me that are exagerations of the truth." The man laughed, his chuckle deep and from low in his chest, booming in the quiet night.

"My name is Alistair Rhine, the son of Marelle Rhine of the Province of Lynlana." He bowed slightly to his queen before he rose back up, a tall, imposing man. "You may or may not have heard of her before, she is just a First Circle member of the Queen there." Alistair stepped back and moved to Galyna's side.

Rhydra watched the High Priestess silently as she sampled her blood wine. Rhydra’s eyes followed Galyna’s to her servers who milled about the garden. She sent a tight distaff to staff thread on the Opal to Symon admonishing him for letting the servants wander. She was under the impression that they would serve and then leave. She would be sure they were reprimanded accordingly. Her narrowed brown eyes followed them as they left her garden and then back to Galyna.

“I’m sorry, I assure you now that no one will overhear us.” The favor was an intriguing one. It wasn’t often that Galyna asked favors of the Nharkhava Queen, but Rhydra was ready to jump at it if she was offered more trade agreements. Rhydra was ambitious to the point of folly about getting the Palisade busy again. She watched quietly as Alistair appeared from behind one of her rose bushes. Galyna was not lying when she said that Alistair was handsome. He was beautiful to the point of seeming like a statue carved of some pale stone. Her eyes drifted to his jewel as he slowly moved to be by her side and though she was impressed by his red jewel she said nothing. Her eyes quickly flicked to Galyna’s before moving back to the jewel. He had come from Meadowbrook? The foolish Headmaster and his teachers had been able to mold and control a dark jeweled warlord prince such as this one? They must have had help from Galyna… which meant she had much interest invested in this young man. Rhydra ignored the comments about him having a crush on her. Truthfully, Rhydra found the attentions of men made her uncomfortable… at least in the bedroom. Casual flirting she didn’t mind and in fact enjoyed it from time to time, but at the mention of her bed she grew cold and distant.

“Do not worry, Prince, the High Priestess speaks highly of you,” replied Rhydra in a quiet, yet calculative voice. “Although I have heard of your mother I have not had the pleasure of meeting her. Things have been quite busy since I have returned to the throne. You should invite her to visit me should she wish.” She motioned to a chair that remained empty at the table and then with a subtle tilt of her head asked if he would like some refreshment. “Please sit, Prince Rhine, I’m sure the talk that we’re about to have involves you at the very center of it.” She tilted her head to Galyna and with a slow smile asked, “Am I not correct, sister?”

The High Priestess felt the male bristle behind the bush and felt a slip of amusement run through her body. Males were so prideful, and this one, this wonderfully dark Red Jeweled Warlord Prince had more pride than most. But then again, she had embraced that pride and allowed it to swell inside him so that it could might just be away to control him. She sighed a bit inside her head and hoped that she wouldn’t have to result into using the Ring to control him. Males were much more willing to help when they didn’t think that they have to fight up for their pride. She watched with carefully eyes as her little pet bowed and presented himself to her. Good… no sign of the discontentment. He had learned well, and she was pleased.

“Among other things, yes,” The Queen said with a nodded as she took yet another long sip from her blood wine. “I am also interested in possible working out a some details with you, sister, one of the District Queens in Scelt might be willing to deal with use directly.” Scelt… that was another bone in Galyna’s throat. The old bitch was still fighting her tooth and nail. The last two queens that she tried to place in power were exiled. And now the Queen that was going to take over was too far out for her to influence. It would only more time, but it was a bit annoying. And Galyna hated to be annoyed.

"I am so thankful of your warm welcome," he told her softly, giving her a nice smile, one showing him contentment with the situation. Alistair did not say a word as he sat down like Queen Celestine had asked him, taking a seat away from both of the ladies since he was not directly involved in their conversation, just there to present himself and listen to what both had to say. He was not here to deal with either of them the way he had been trained, since one was his real mistress and the other was the Queen of his Territory. He ran a hand through his dark hair, pulling one of his legs over the other and disappearing into the shadows of the garden as the servants hustled around and disappeared.

He listened with silence as she talked about Scelt. Alistair knew little to nothing about the Territroy, but to tell the truth he knew little or nothing about anything other than his home of Nharkhava. As the two women spoke he looked back from one to the other, wondering what Galyna truly did have up her sleeves on this one.

Rhydra sat contentedly beside Galyna as Alistair took his proffered seat. He was certainly attractive, and Rhydra could feel the woman in her rise up like some dark primeval creature. For a moment she entertained the thought of bringing him to her bed chamber, but just as soon as she entertained the thought the same cold rage that always overtook her at the idea of a man between her legs shivered up her spine and she turned her eyes away from the alabaster carved man. The visible shiver had shaken her and she took a deep draught from her wine glass before turning her entire attention on Galyna.

Scelt? Rhydra felt like laughing, but contained her sarcastic chuckle. What did Scelt have to offer her other than horses and horse shit? Nharkhava wasn’t a very big farming community and so the manure had no place in her territory, and the horses… well. The horses of Scelt were rumored to be the very finest so perhaps she should consider what Galyna had to say. If she could get a trading pact for the horses there would be much activity in the Palisade over them. Merchants from all over Kaeleer would flock to her marketplace in order to purchase the famed Scelt equines. A slow smirk spread across her face. Perhaps this would be a very beneficial meeting indeed.

“Scelt? The Territory Queen is a horse’s ass. Fitting that her country should be built upon it.” Rhydra turned to Alistair for a moment before confiding in an overly dramatic whisper. “Her face is no better than a horse’s ass as well.” She had a coy smile on her lips when she turned back to Galyna. “Sorry, sister, I lost my tongue for a moment. What ideas have you for Scelt and this ambitious district Queen who would work so closely with us? You have whet my taste for horseflesh, my sister, and if you can provide me with horses as a trading pact then I shall do whatever it is in my power to help you with your plan for Scelt.”

Rhydra’s eyes flickered back to Alistair with a concerned look. What was his purpose then? What was he going to do in Scelt? Seduce the district Queen to Galyna’s will? It seemed silly to use such a powerful weapon on a woman who could so easily be bought. Besides, he might get himself into more trouble than it would be worth to send him there. Rhydra knew the type. He would get bored at some point and make a mistake…

Galyna chuckled softly. “Yes, my dear, but she is an old horse’s ass, and that is the important part.” There was a twinkle in the eye of the older Black Widow Priestess Queen that didn’t bode well for the people of Scelt. “And I am sure that you I can convince our fellow Queen to see what Nharkhava can do for her.” She paused for a second, “Though I may require your help a bit later, but the time for that isn’t quite ripe.” She looked at the red blood wine that coated the clear glass that she held in her hand. Scelt had a hard future ahead of them if she had anything to do with it. And she would feast, like she never feasted before.

The Red Jeweled Queen noticed the way that the younger Queen looked at the Red Jeweled Warlord Prince sitting next to her. “No, sister, our exquisite male here has much bigger fish to catch than some mere White Jeweled Queen in Scelt.” She cocked her head slightly to look at the man that she had worked hard to train, the male that would be the tool of destruction in Terreille. “And I hope that you will be pleased with the results when his tasks are done.” Not wanting to drag the conversation out all night, the Queen adjusted her body language to indict that she was ready to get down to business. Setting her glass down on the near by table, she began to talk.

“I am hoping to be able to bring you very exotic herbs and spices that can’t be found in all of Kaeleer. I have my eyes set on a quaint little Territory called Shalador. It isn’t a big place but it is just the right type of place to expand our influence beyond this Realm. And more importantly it has a Gate, which is the key that I have been looking for. Alistair will be going there to secure our interest there.”

Alistair continued to sit there, remaining quiet but clearly possessing the twinkle in his eyes that showed he was more than interested in all the events going on around him. There was really no need for him to speak, and instead of butting into their conversation, he kept to himself, sitting peacefully on the bench by himself and absorbing all the information that was cast around. His job in the whole deal was not to be loud and vocal, but to stay back and under the radar, doing what he was told and not causing more mayhem and madness than was required. The Red Jeweled Warlord Prince had been taught well at Meadowbrook, one of the main reasons why him out of all people had been chosen for Galyna’s special mission.

He was glad to hear that he would not be sent to Scelt - he had never been there, of course, but just the ideas that Galyna had spoken of gave him bad connotations, that his talents would be wasted on some stupid Queen who wanted to parade him around as her toy. Alistair was not there to be a pet, he was there to accomplish his own goals in life, and it just happened that many of them coincided with what the High Priestess of Hell wanted, making his decision to join her plans even sweeter. When Galyna looked at him, he smiled, his handsome face still exquisite even in the soft light. His looks did not hurt him, either.

Shalador. Before Galyna had told Queen Celestine, not even Alistair had known what she had in store for him. Terreille had never been something he was knowledgeable in, besides knowing that it existed - he knew nothing of the Territories or the people. He nodded along with her as she spoke, coming to a quick understanding of the basic idea. Of course, the specifics had yet to be worked out - there was still plenty to learn.

“And I will not let you down, my Queen,” Alistair told Galyna with a slight bow of his head, glancing over at Rhydra with a smile on his face. He had such a childish crush on her, but he would never let his fantasies get in the way of what he had been trained to do for years now. “Whatever you wish for me to do, I will do it with all the pleasure in Kaeleer.”

Rhydra appreciated the woman’s ability to get right down to business. There were some that could ramble on about anything which would just draw them out into the dawn and Rhydra was not sure if that was a very good plan as she didn’t know Galyna’s tolerance to the sunlight. Once Galyna gave a peek into her thoughts about Rhydra’s need in all of this it brought a seductive smile to her face. Scelt horses. They would be hers and she would fill the Palisade with the finest Scelt had to offer. Of course Nharkhava could offer them a great many things in return, but Rhydra’s thoughts were on the allocation of goods from other Territories. One could say that she was never truly satisfied with what she had. She wanted her Palisade to be the biggest center of commerce in the history of Nharkhava. She would bring a golden age to her people, and she would do it through Galyna. Sure, she had to make sacrifices of her own and of her people, but in Rhydra’s eyes it was a means to an end. The end being a Golden Age.

She hadn’t really thought too much into what Alistair had been doing. For all that Rhydra knew he was hired to keep Galyna happy since she had seen to his training. He may have been a product of Meadowbrook, but she was certain Meadowbrook didn’t teach that, did they? She had a sharp pain in her temple which caused her to flinch. Unconcerned with it, she took another sip of the wine. Perhaps she was sobering up faster than she would have wished.

Once Galyna revealed her plans for Alistair a twinkle shone in Rhydra’s eye. Herbs and spices no one had ever seen in Kaeleer? If she could have crowed and clapped her hands together without seeming overly pleased with this idea she would have. Although, once again a seductive smile spread across her lips and she turned to Alistair. They were placing so much faith in the bedroom skills of this young man. She felt a little sorry for him. Failing the High Priestess of Hell was not something a person did twice. They usually didn’t live after the first time. And although she thought him silly to have a crush on her and so very young in his experiences she didn’t want to see him fail. He seemed so sure of himself, but that the quintessential male. “Let us hope for both our sakes,” she murmured, but then turned her attention to Galyna. “Is there anything you need me to do for Shalador? Otherwise I will turn my eyes to Scelt…”
