She wasn't even sure if she was allowed to be sitting there on the front steps or not, but if she had to spend another moment indoors, Amaranth swore she would have gone crazy. She didn't think it would have given anybody a very good first impression of her if she'd snapped at somebody because she couldn't control her quickly frayed temper. So, she'd put on her best 'just-dare-to-stop-me' look and had ended up here, sulking on the front porch. She hooked her hair behind her pointed ears and wished she had the courage to drop her illusion webs. She hadn't dared break the spell that had kept her safe for the past seven years, the spell she'd had to renew in secret every so often so nobody would find out what she really was. And even though she knew someone had already seen through her illusions, she still couldn't bring herself to do it. She would wait a few more days at least. Hayll seemed nice enough for a city, but it was certainly no Dea Al Mon. She had to admit that she missed the forests and the meadows. Here, the rolling landscapes outside the city seemed so....open. Maybe she was just biased though, and she hoped she'd get used to it soon, because returning home didn't seem like it would ever be an option to her. Pulling her knees up to her chest, she rested her chin on them and watched the horses that were in the fields. Her attention focused on a large palomino in particular, who seemed to be roaming about on his own between the different paddocks. That was strange, but she didn't give it much other thought. As she watched them, she thought about the past few years. She'd changed hands so many times now, she wasn't quite sure what to expect here. Her previous owners had ranged from cruel to sick to just plain mean, but any way they came, she always ended up back in Raej. Nobody wanted a witch with a temper that could bite to the core if she was provoked enough. Though this place seemed different at least, she was trying not to expect anything. She'd learned long ago to stop hoping for the best outcome. However, the Warlord Prince who ruled Hayll - Damien Troy she'd learned - seemed different, and had offered her a place in a Black Widow Coven here, so maybe there was still hope after all... |

Rhaevin woke early enough the morning after her arrival, and despite her innate discomfort with not knowing her place or what was expected of her, she rose and dressed and quickly fled the suite of rooms that had been given her. Again, they were lovely, but she simply couldn't pace in them all morning. She considered attempting to find breakfast, but the Prince hadn't said anything about it last night, and she was already confused enough. So instead of making a fuss, she walked through the main hall towards the front door. The guards shifted uncomfortably, and she blushed to remember her behavior last night. What had she been thinking? She tucked strands of dark hair behind an ear and opened the front door of the manor, stepping out into the sunlight. For a moment she didn't see the other occupant, simply letting the sun kiss her pale skin. She could have passed for long lived, save for that skin, she felt. It was good, because she was half. She wanted to work in the garden, but she wasn't sure why. She never had done much gardening back with the Everards, instead a slave to Solange. Now she wanted to exercise her supposed freedom. So she raised her hands above her head, calling in a strap of leather to tie off her hair as she quickly braided the length of it. Firmly tied, she turned to descend the stairs and was surprised to see the other witch for the first time. "Oh, excuse me. I didn't see you." Without thinking, she inclined her head. "Apologies." Who was this witch? Rhaevin had not been introduced to her last night, but surely that didn't mean a thing. She hadn't met the Court, after all. "I am Rhaevin." she was hesitant to use the last name of the family who had abused her, and really in Kaeleer it was rare to use one's family name in every day speech. She was thankful, at least, that she had pulled a long sleeved blouse over her short sleeved shirt this morning. "I did not mean to intrude." |

"Amaranth," she supplied, if albeit rather curtly. She didn't seem to be thrilled with the idea that her morning had suddenly been interrupted. "Don't worry about it. It's not like it's my front porch. No use apologizing." The bitterness in her voice was unmistakable, but at least that second statement had sounded a little less cold-tempered. She hadn't meant it to come out that way, but all the pent-up anger she was feeling just sometimes seemed to manifest in her voice, twisting her tone into something completely different than she meant. She looked back at the woman behind her and offered a half-hearted smile. "It's nice to meet you," she added, trying to break the silence she had unintentionally created. If this girl was as much of a talker as she was, this conversation was going to prove to be interesting. She looked back out at the golden stallion, who was now watching them with veiled interest as he grazed near the fence. She whistled, pleased when his ears pricked and lifted his head. She found it amazing that something so simple could improve her mood so much. She gave Rhaevin a grin over her shoulder. "He's a beauty, isn't he?" she laughed, gesturing at the stallion with her thumb. She folded her arms around her knees, wondering if she'd even get a reply. Her abrasive personality tended to make people want to quietly slip away when she wasn't looking, and she knew it. She'd never condemned anybody for it though, for half the time, she didn't want to be around herself even. She scared herself sometimes to think that she could strip a person to the bone with a word and not look back as she walked away. |

Rhaevin was put off by the woman's curt attitude, and she immediately feared she had done something wrong. She had only been here a day and already she was making enemies. She should not have fret much for she would be gone in but a day or two, but she did feel regret. She hated making those around her uncomfortable, so she tended to blend into the background almost always. Now she was contemplating doing just that before the woman spoke again, and Rhaevin found herself confused. Nice to meet her? At another word, Rhaevin followed this woman's eyes to spy the horses. Rhaevin smiled for those horses. Even though she had never rode them much in her childhood, they were a symbol of freedom. She had one memorable time spring to mind. Jozuah had snuck her away from the manor home, and they had gone riding together. She had had maybe half an hour of pure freedom, galloping with Jozuah behind her to protect her. The entire memory brought a sheen of tears to her eyes, that she fiercely blinked back. Jozuah would survive, he had to. And Rhaevin would go back for him some day. "He is beautiful." Rhaevin agreed, studying the horses as a whole. All of them were lively, beautiful examples of horseflesh. Feeling more bold than she had in awhile (sans the whole escape), Rhaevin descended the stairs and crossed to the fence. She waited patiently just on the other side until one took interest in her. She held out flat palm up and let him snuff her before she rubbed between his eyes on his great massive head. "I'm sorry, lovely one, I have nothing for you to nibble upon." He didn't' seem to mind and nipped at her shirt before turning his head away. She was sorry to see him trot away. Feeling refreshed, Rhaevin glanced at the woman she'd been speaking to. "It is nice to meet you, Amaranth." |

He had no sooner trotted away than the massive palomino horse turned and broke into a ground-eating canter. He didn't slow down as he reached the fence, except to change leads smoothly, gather his muscles and sail over the fence. He skidded on the gravel path a little as he landed with a heavy thud and proceeded to prance about arrogantly around Rhaevin. As the breeze and motion caught his long creamy forelock, the Summer-Sky Jewel that was set into a golden circlet around his head became visible. He didn't seem too concerned about it though, and continued to prance about like a little colt. Trying to gauge her reaction, he switched into a high-stepping show pony hack a moment later. Every so often, the Summer-Sky would be visible again, but it always disappeared again behind the forelock that would fall over one eye or the other, which were both deep summer-sky blue to match his Jewels. |

If Amaranth had been about to say anything else, whatever words were there dissipated into thin air. Her mouth hung open for a moment before she remembered to shut it again. She stuttered for a moment before she bolted to her feet and raced towards the prancing stallion and other girl who she was almost positive must have had a near heart attack. "Rhaevin!" She darted around the horse and to Rhaevin's side, making sure that she was okay before she gave the horse a glare that, if it could, would have melted iron. This was, of course, until she saw the Summer-Sky and suddenly felt very faint herself. Kindred!? This feeling of dizzy disbelief lasted for about two seconds before her temper skyrocketed enough to send a bit of ice spiralling around her boots. Why did he have a Kindred stallion in Terreille?! Next time she saw Damien Troy, she vowed, she was going to give him quite an earful. Slave or not, this Warlord was Blood as they were. |

Rhaevin couldn't help the shock that was plain on her face when the stallion took the fence, and rather effortlessly. She took a few quick steps away from the fence, but he was circling her and she watched him with rapt fascination as he paraded about her. Was he showing off? She furrowed her brow until she noticed the Jewel that peaked out of his mane, and her jaw dropped. Kindred? This was two kindred she'd met in one week, it was amazing. She'd thought them legends before, and now two! Amaranth darted to her side, and Rhaevin was surprised that the other woman seemed to care if she was harmed or not. The brash way she'd acted a few moments before... Rhaevin had to remind herself that this was a different world, and she couldn't expect everyone to be as cold and heartless as her family. She offered Amaranth a reassuring smile, despite her own surprise, and turned to look at this beauty of a Prince. She could sense that now that she was looking for it. *Now now, you're showing off.* she said along a Rose psychic thread. It was the same sort of thread that Phaed had showed her a few days earlier, and she wondered if it worked on kindred horses as well as the kindred cat she'd met. She stepped up and offered her hand. *I'm Rhaevin... if you wanted to be introduced, Prince, you didn't need to show off quite so much.* There was humor in her mind voice and she hoped it translated to him. |

The horse's prance slowed into a dance-in-place as she spoke to him, and finally, he stood still again, flicking his long tail. *I am Rowann,* he replied, sounding amused, *You know how to speak to Kindred?* His ears swiveled inquisitively, one towards Rhaevin, the other towards Amaranth, who was looking a little peeved about the discovery of him being what he was. *I am here by choice now, little one,* he sent in her direction, which seemed to calm her temper a little bit. It seemed that Prince Troy had narrowly escaped her line of fire. The stallion nuzzled Rhaevin's hand with his velvety muzzle, which still bore the long whiskers of a younger colt. He couldn't have been more than a couple years old anyway, but his size would throw anybody off. He was at least eighteen hands at the withers already. He said nothing about showing off, but the feeling that was coming through the Rose link bore a mixture of amusement and laughter. Taking a step back though, he bowed to both girls, bending one foreleg and letting the other slide in the gravel before him. His head was bowed so that his nose was just inside his bent knee. After a moment, he rose and shook his mane. *It is a pleasure to meet you both.* |

Rhaevin bowed her head in reply to the Prince's manners and let her bright smile flash again. *I do know. A friend taught me. Of course, he was a rather large cat, so I wasn't sure it would work with you as well. It is very good to meet you Prince Rowann.* The kindred were certainly one kind of Blood she had no fear from, even Phaed who was quite a bit more intimidating than Rowann, both for his Jewel strength, his caste, and his teeth. As she delighted in the sight of him, she turned to Amaranth. "Did you know there were kindred here?" She asked. "It's amazing..." she trailed off as she approached. She held up her hands, waiting some sign he would be alright with her petting his neck. She had always loved the horses back home, and had always imagined that they could talk to her. Perhaps that was a child's dream, but the young woman knew it was truth and that the kindred above all else should be protected. She believed that if nothing else. *How long have you been here, Prince?* she asked him. *Were you born here?* She was so curious about Hayll, but she hadn't realized that Terreille had kindred like Kaeleer. She'd thought that legends said they were unique to the shadow Realm. Odd that she would find one so quickly. |

Both girls heard his answer, felt the amusement in that calm psychic voice. *It works for all Kindred, little one. Once you know it, it is as easy as prancing,* he replied, lowering his head so that Rhaevin could scratch his ears. Hesitantly, Amaranth too stepped forward, running a hand over the sleek silvery-golden hide. His fur was the same color as her hair, she noted, smiling. "No, I didn't know there were Kindred here...I didn't think there was supposed to be though. From what I've heard here, they are little more than legends it seems. But yes...it is amazing...but....I doubt he was born here. Poachers were a common thing in Kaeleer when I was taken, and I doubt things have improved..." she said quietly, talking half to Rhaevin and half musing to herself. The stallion dipped his nose a little more in a nod, acknowledging what she'd said. *Correct. I was taken from my herd in Scelt by humans from this Realm a couple of years ago. Stupid Aristo's tried to make a show-pony of me. Hayll is my home now. I have been here a couple of months.* The young woman felt a pang of sympathy for the horse, her fingers tangling themselves in his silky mane. |

Rhaevin listened, her smile never fading but turning sad. She rested her forehead against that neck, hands slowing and finally resting as well. Poachers. He'd been kidnapped, forced to come here. Her smile finally faded as she considered what that must mean. To love your home, but be forced to leave it? It was inexplicable to her, one who feared her own home, and had chosen to run. She considered Hayll instead. She was beginning to enjoy being here, had already made a few friends, what would she do if forced to leave? Her jaw took on a stubborn set and she stepped away from Rowann. *Do you want to go home? I could-* To return to Kaeleer would be to invite Soleil to reclaim what she'd lost. She could not imagine facing the power behind her family after what she'd done. She would be very very lucky to escape with her life. She doubted she would, at least not with her Jewel and mind in tact. They didn't need her, she was just a troublesome pest, but Madam Rhone and Soleil guarded jealously what was there's, and she fell into that category. But she would change it if she could help him return home. *If you wish to return to Scelt, I will do what I can to help you. I am from Kaeleer, I have just recently come from there.* her mind voice betrayed some of the fear, but not the whole of it. She glanced at Amaranth. "Both of you. I could try... I could try to return you both to Kaeleer, to your homes." she said quietly. She wished only to help them, but while Rowann did not, Amaranth intimidated her a bit. The curt Black Widow Healer was a far stronger person than Rhaevin, the Healer Queen could see that, and it had little to nothing to do with Jewel strength, too. Then again, if the stories of the Dea al Mon were true, she could see the pride and heritage of them in this woman. She offered a small smile. |

Amaranth's eyes narrowed dangerously in Rhaevin's direction. She had not heard anything about the girl's situation, but the fear in her eyes and voice were quite enough to put the Black Widow Healer on edge. She wanted with everything in her heart to return home, but she wouldn't be able to live with herself if the price was another woman's safety. Everything had a price, and that was one she was not willing to pay. She saw that the stallion sensed and heard the fear as well (She did not realize that Rhaevin had been speaking directly to him prior), for he snorted and pinned his ears back. She was glad to know that she had him on her side as well, for she was sure he had similar feelings about returning home. "And how do you suggest that we open the gates? I realize that the High Priestess is Prince Troy's sister, but seriously darling, you came here for a reason. That much is apparent. You'd put your own self at risk for a woman and a horse you barely know? Would you? Think carefully about that." Her voice wasn't angry, just irritated. The only things that spoke of fire in her stance now were her eyes, which burned intensely with an inner light. But again, there was no anger there; there was just a challenge and a question. Why would someone risk their safety for strangers? She wasn't sure she would if it came down to it, at least, not in a situation like this seemed to be. |
