ok so my question is about a 2004 quad cab 3.7l 4wd with 8.5 rear end. i put 285/75/16s on the truck and had the computer set to the largest size tires that their computer (or the ecu) said could put on the truck. think it was like 2 sizes smaller or something. so ive had somewhat shifting issues sence like doing 50 or 55 on the hwy by the speedo, i have to either let it slow down as i climb a tiny hill or put the pedal down just a little further. when i do this it down shifts to what feels like 2nd sometimes and screams then shifts up and then immediately shifts on up and locks up the torque converter. then i have to repeat or not let off quite as much and have to work it so that i dont shift up like turning the overdrive off. what i do know is when im driving at 70 on the speedo, im actually doing more like 80 (paced by a stock vehicle), at the same time had a friend with a snapon solstice or something like that that the computer is only reeding that im doing 45. now again ive had the computer recalibrated to the largest setting and i know that i can do further refinement by changing the tone ring in the rear diff to make the sensor reed more teeth. but are there sensors like on a newer model hwmvee transmission called a tiss (transmission imput speed sensor) and a toss (transmission output speed sensor). that being said i know the 04 has a intergrated ecu and tcm however could the transmission portion not be reading what was changed. did that only alter the speedo or what? is there anything else that i can do to help with the shift issues? |

Greetings Gang Hey Brink, do you tune with a programmer or did you have you PCM flashed with a new program? This sounds like an issue between a towing tune and factory or performance tune. Factory tires are generally thirty inches going to maybe thirty one. If you have mistakenly put in a towing tune or your programmer has a glitch, it throws all your shift points out. Have you changed your gear ratio in your diff?, If you are using a tuner is it the right model for your make model year? Check your shift down cable for stretch or connectivity, check to see if your transmission solenoid is bumming out too. If you haven't done a search here lately, use it and query transmission or shifting problems. Sounds to me more of a trans thing than a tire thing. If you do self tune, go back to stock and take a drive. If they flashed your pcm, get it checked out. Get back to me. TC |

had a dealership change the pinion factor. noone makes a tuner for my truck just custom tune people or jet chip. they changed the pinion factor to the largest setting possible which was still like 2 sizes smaller. havent changed the gear ratio but i want to. havent checked kickdown cable i thought it was all computer controlled. and its been driving the same sence like 3 years ago so dont think the trans solenoid is bumming out. |
