Hey guys, I know this is probably in the wrong section, but I tried to divide up my ideas and questions so everyone would see them, and to get more people talking on here, since the success of the roll on bedliner, I was thinking of doing the frame of the truck when I go and start fixing her up, and I was wondering what would be better, a roll on bedliner kit, like a herculiner or duplicolor, or POR 15? I know the the POR15 is expensive at about $80 a quart and a kit of the roll on is about $100 for a gallon. Now cost isn't really a big concern I just want the job done right so I don't have to do it again, and I know that the POR doesn't chip and the roll on kits claim you can beat the hell out of them and everything will be fine. So what do you guys think? |

i wouldnt do either, just clean and paint, i dont know anything about por15 but if theres any surface rust at all, if you bedliner overtop, it will trap it in, not stop it. |

POR-15 uses the rust as its bonding agent and turns it into a paintable surface. If you want to cut your time in half go with the POR-15 after a vigorous powerwash to get all the chipping paint and gunk off your frame. Then wipe it down to get any leftover residue off and slop on the POR-15. Any and all rust will be stopped. It's pretty amazing stuff. |

Pretty smooth from what I understand. I haven't worked with it myself but a bunch of people on here have. I've read into it and watched some videos and it comes out as smooth as you can apply it. They might have textured stuff too, though. Not 100% sure. |

I know that you need to wear long sleeves and gloves, cause once the stuff gets on you its near impossible to get off, and that was my original plan to use the POR 15, I did see Trucks on Spike TV use it and it came out great, I believe they used it on the s10 prostreet they where building |

POR-15 comes 2 different finished, flat or gloss. I did mine in gloss and I think it looks good. As mentioned above, a good cleaning of the frame would needed to get any dirt/mud as well as any loose rust. If you do this plan a whole day to do this and old clothes and gloves... Also..cheap natural bristel brushes, a couple of ziplock plastic food containers and a coffee scoop to get it out of the can and into the ziplock container. This stuff dries fast, and when it dries its like glue. Reason for using coffe scoop and ziplock container. If it get into the lip of the can and you put the lid on, you'll have to cut the top of the can off to get back in. Also unused POR-15 should be put into the fridge to extend shelf life. Good luck...I don't think you can go wrong either way...only the prep might be different for the bedliner. |

Wow, I never heard you had to do all that with the POR 15, that good info to know, I'm sure the wife will like the can of paint in the fridge, lmao, so it looks like I'll be using the POR15 for the truck |

Cool. Let me know how it turns out for you. If I don't sell mine that's on the to-do list. |

Now thats what the fella at the autobody suggested I do..the coffee scoop and zip lock containers...because other than keep the stuff out of the lip of the can the brush and containers are useless afterwards...the scoop you can use over again.. Someone else might have a better idea than what I mentioned here... Somethings to ponder.. This stuff give a nice smooth glossy finish on bare or primed surfaces. That being said, if you have undercoating you might want to consider cleaning it off completely. POR-15's bond is only as good as the surface will let it be if you understand what I'm saying. If you have a bare frame..no undercoating...and light rust...this brushes on like something sticky but seems to be self-leveling...which is nice.. |
