Greetings Group
Piecing something together............................. [HHMM] let's see.................................. [HHMM]
I think a 360 w/ 5speed manual was offered in the full size ram but never in a dak.
Isn't the 5.9 block the same as the 5.2 block? If it is the NV3500 would bolt up, but I hear the NV3500 5 speed wouldn't hold up. I think the 5.9 in the ram comes with a NV4500 (which didn't fit the dakota)
The blocks are the same but the 5.9 is externally balanced the 5.2 is internally balanced. you couldn't use the flywheel from the 5.2. you could get a donor engine from a fullsize ram and mate the nv3500 to it. not sure how long it would last.
The 5.9 and 5.2 was available with a manual in the rams for a while. But they are scarce as hen's teeth. Bolting everything together with factory parts is pretty easy. There are aftermarket kits available with everything you need from dealers like Keisler.

The biggest issue is the pilot bearing. If you have the hole in the back of the crank, it's a simple and cheap procedure to add the bearing. If you don't have the hole, it just got a lot more expensive and a lot more complicated. I don't know that there's any way to be sure except to look.
The NV3500 is'nt really able to hold the tourqe of a 360.
Regards as always

thanks cook for the info. why wouldnt the NV4500 fit??? i think the NV3500 could hold up for a little while as long as i dont tear it up cause i can always pull it again to have it built for the power. but what about the electrical stuff?? or do you think its too much hassle and just stick to auto??

Greetings Gang
I think the biggest trouble is getting the trans to fit in the dakota tunnel. Check into Monster transmissions, not sure if they are dodge related. The housing is stout, just replace things with aftermarket internals...............good luck.
