When i went on the hunt for a toolbox a while back i had only three expectations. Black, slim, and functional. unfortunately, after searching high and low i was forced to settle for a chrome slim box, yet very functional for my needs. Its a Kobalt, Better built midsized truck tool box. so a while after having it, and noticing the scar where the salesman run a razor blade down the side to open it... , i decided to look into painting it....Black, of course. after tons of research, i read that it would both look like crap, and the paint would simply peel, or scratch right off, or wouldn't even stick in the first place. Well, i dont know if anyone here has tried it, but just in case you like the way mine looks now, heres how ya do it. Simply remove the box from the truck, Use a decent steel wool, and lightly scuff the entire surface you want to paint, tape off what you dont, and shoot it. I used Rustoleum bed coating, and i will just say, it looks better than most store bought ones ive seen(in my opinion). As for durability... ive flat out THROWN and BEAT the box with sockets.... at most you get a light area where its not AS black, but no chrome shows through. Took me 3 cans at $8 a pop, but definitely worth it. DON'T USE PLASTICOTE! |

looks good, i think i want a tool box when my tonneau cover gets torn up and a rear slider to get the beer thats in the box. but the quadcab has such a small bed i dont know if i would like a tool box. i see you put a body lift on, you need tires ASAP. Edited by 04dak, May 16 2011, 11:44 PM.

I thought it took up too much space when i got it , but after i took it off to black it out, the truck jus didn't look right without it. It actually grows on ya, and it still leaves a good deal of space back there, especially since it isn't super deep, i can slide a suitcase or two up under and have all kinds of goodies in the back. Ran ta the Carolina mountains for two weeks, and had only a motorcycle trailer with bike stuff, had room to spare with the inside of the truck loaded. Plus i like being able to lock up a gas can or such without smelling up my cab.
