2000 - 4.7 V8 Automatic Transmission.

Noticed on WOT it will squeal/chirp when shifting from first into second. It's consistent. Friend of mine drove it and it was consistent every time on WOT.

Am I looking at a new transmission?

I highly doubt anything has been changed from the previous owner (as in fluid/filter). If that's teh case here I thought trying to find a new bed was going to be expensive.

Thoughts? Past experience?

its probably just the raw power ofthe 4.7 making the tires break free when it shifts lol.

I was hurt in May, did not drive for several months. I have a Pontiac as a DD post-injury, so no, I never noticed it because I didn't commonly open 'er up. Plus the exhaust drowns out a lot. Either way how is that question relevant :P

timmopar00,
It's no telling what the owner did/didn't do, the battery when we got it was 8 years old in it lol.. But by judging by the rusting-out bed courtesy of the previous owner, I'll say he didn't give much of a dang.

Greetings Squadron
Hey Kendra................Long time no see.............welcome back.............. [thumbs-up]
Just to let you know..........some of these symptoms can be caused by a loose or worn serpentine belt as well as a bad tensioner...It's always good to freshen the filter and fluids..........make sure to cech your trans fluids after a change to insure proper levels from settling..........but i would also look in to the belts ware and tear...........belt slippageis the cause of squeal as well as strange shift points and what not.............I have a forum in here for You And Youur Serpentine Belt.......have a read on that as well
Regards/Ooorah!

Well, to answer your question....hmmm...lets see..never before have you got on your truck an noticed this till now? Does the transmission have any other.."symptoms?'' related to the way you normally drive? If not..I would say not to worry...If you feel you must change the filter/fluid or have no idea when it was changed last by all means do it.. "chirping from 1 into 2nd...I would not really be worried about. Maybe...just maybe the previous owner had some trans work done to it...you never know an not really "getting on" the throttle you may have never noticed it till now.

Unless your trans is shifting funny during your normal driving...don't worry about it...

The shifting varies on the Dakota, however, the chirp has been going on soon as I started driving again which was late July early August. Of course the ankle I busted was my right so there wasn't a whole lot of WOTin' with it.

I took it in yesterday to have the tranny fluid changed, the said the fluid did not look too bad as stated before it was the place to start looking for problems in the tranny. Apparently put some kind of "conditioner" to help the lines as well. I pick it up today, so we'll see, he said I probably won't notice a difference for a month (or any at all)

Either way, I don't haul with it, my Dad's beating the hell out of it. Someone backed into my GTP the other day and something I'd normally flip out about, I didn't care. Work can be a PITA for ones hobbies :(
