ok, iam not sure if anybody talked about this before or not, but i have been having some transmission problems. Its not a big deal to me, its covered under warrenty, so it will be going into the shop to get it fixed soon. but anyways, when its cold out and i put it in drive, the truck wont move, ill give it some gas and the RPM's will go all the way up to 1500 to 2000 RPM's and then it will start moving slowly. And i have no overdrive. Also when it is warm out it wont do anything except, i still wont have overdrive. Now like i said before, its not a big deal to me because its covered under warrenty(well it is a big deal to me, i dont want to be without my truck, lol) but i would like to know some information on this situation or on these transmissions. If anyone knows or has had this problem, please let me know, Thanks ![]() |

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I understand that our tranny 's, an I pretty sure others in the Dodge Line up also have what they call a "drain back"issue where you lose a large portion of the fluid From the converter ...I heard this before but have never experienced it. Not sure on the specfics On what make this happen but it not uncommon. Make sure you check your fluids for proper levels which I am sure they will be. Something I do after the truck sits over night an I do this especially In cold weather is that I start the truck let it idle down to normal rpm's an with foot on the break I run it throught all the gears once or twice just to get the fluid moving...now I let it clunk into drive an reverse as well as down into low 1 & 2...never had a problem....give it a shot... ok, a guy that i work with used to have a dodge dakota and he told me that when i go out and start it to put in Neutral so that all the fluids will get moved around better. Thats what i heard. Like this morning it was a little chilly up here and i went out and started my truck and put it in neutral and i usally let it sit there until the rpms are where they should, and once the rpm's are where they should be i put it in drive and it worked. but still no overdrive. I dont know. thanks for the info LR. the more info the better.![]() |

Greetings Gang Some info about the 46re........... 46RE the 4 is four speeds the 6 is the load rating ( 7 being the highest) R is rear wheel drive and E is electronic control. ADJUSTMENT - BANDS FRONT BAND The front (kickdown) band adjusting screw is located on the left side of the transmission case above the manual valve and throttle valve levers. Raise vehicle. Loosen band adjusting screw locknut. Then back locknut off 3-5 turns. Be sure adjusting screw turns freely in case. Apply lubricant to screw threads if necessary. Tighten band adjusting screw to 8 Nm (72 in. lbs.) torque with Inch Pound Torque Wrench C-3380-A, a 3-in. extension and an appropriate Torx socket. Back off front band adjusting screw 2-7/8 turns. Hold adjuster screw in position and tighten locknut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) torque. Lower vehicle. REAR BAND The transmission oil pan must be removed for access to the rear band adjusting screw. Raise vehicle. Remove transmission oil pan and drain fluid. Loosen band adjusting screw locknut 5-6 turns. Be sure adjusting screw turns freely in lever. Tighten adjusting screw to 8 Nm (72 in. lbs.) torque. Back off adjusting screw 2 turns. Hold adjusting screw in place and tighten locknut to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) torque. Position new gasket on oil pan and install pan on transmission. Tighten pan bolts to 13.6 Nm (125 in. lbs.) torque. Lower vehicle and refill transmission with Mopar ATF +4, Automatic Transmission fluid. Now, this link says Ram trans adjustment.......but you will find good info..........just keep scrooloing down until you find Year/46re. http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/transmission/automatic/AT_band_adj.htm Regards/Resaerch TC/DQS Search Engine |
