Right now as I sit here warm and cozy. My dakota is stuck in Knee high mud, on the other side of the Island, about a quarter mile offroad. Man this is the worst day yet for 2007. I never got into it this bad in 2006. My friends and I went surfing at this spot that is pretty nutz. Got in fine, on the way out I misread the depth of the mud and made a HUGE mistake. Got stuck and forgot what to do. Lost all the momentum, and that was it. I dunno if I have ever felt so underprepared in my life except for tonight. Walkin up pitch-black to the main road with very little hope. I gotta find someone tomorrow who has a worthy enough rig to drive down there, and actually be able to tow me out. The place is to nuts for a tow truck to get to, so I'll need some miracles for this one. All I know is that a winch is gaurantee in the future plans.... I'll keep you guys updated, maybe even try and get some pics... Auright, aloha |

Good luck to ya. I hope all is well in the morning light. Remember that a hilift jack can be used in place of a winch if need be. I don't know how easy that stuff is to come by on the island. Post up the pics when you get her back home safe and sound. |

Thanks for the positive feedback guys... Haha i got her out! I'm so happy that I never had to leave her there one more night, it would get ripped off for sure. Anyways, me and the pops went at it today for about 4 hours. Damn, it was crazy! So this morning I thought about the High-Lift idea and went and bought one at the 1 store who sells them here on Maui ($ 170.00 + extra tow rope $60.00). There is no dead winch points, so I lift the back of my truck from the tow hitch reciever, make the ground nice and level. And then take 2 hours two figure out how we are going to lift the front ( no high-lift points), and have no luck. With about 1 hour till dark, it was a miracle, I hear some rumbling coming from the valleys canopy, a tan 4bangin 80's somethin Yoti comes crawlin out, all I can say is thank God. We got pulled out, I gave the boys who helped us some cash and goods, needless to say we were all stoked. Thanks for the support guys, no matter how far you guys are, if it wasn't for you guys, my truck would be no way up to par for this game. The tips, and support is so so sick!! Aloha ps. I'll get the pics of my truck's aftermath on here soon. |

Some thoughts for you. If you search 4 Wheel Parts website, and some other 4x4 parts sites, there are access. kits for the hi-lift. One of the kits includes a tire sling, it's basically a strap with a hook on it that you can insert into the spoke of your tire and lift the truck by the rim, I have one and used it once, works good. Secondly, there is a company here in Colo. that makes a product called Pull-Pal, check them out at www.premierpowerproducts.com. It is something neet, kinda expensive. Third, that winch setup I have works great, and gives some intimidation value as well. |

You have a body lift, right? Take a look at my truck, it has one too. Notice the holes the hooks are sticking out of? Those are stock holes on an '04 bumper and line up with the end of the frame rails with the 3" body lift. Weld a couple of 2" box steel sections that hide just behind the holes. Drill a single horizontal hole through each large enough for a trailer hitch to slide in and pin in place. See where I'm going? Now you can put a 2" hitch or a trailer hitch shacle from Warn to lift the truck or drag it out. Sorry, no pics for this mod as I still need to do this myself. |

As for the High-lift, it has proven to be a very reliable tool for my Dak, I will go and check out those accesories for it now that I have one. I've read about that Pull-Pall and yea i think its good stuff. I actually mentioned to my dad about using my wheel to get the front up, I'll have to look that one up. I am really looking forward to getting a winch for my truck now since I've been in the situation. Thanks for the offer braddah kaui, I'm lucky that there are plenty cool locals around. I dont have a 3" BL, just suspension. But i'm sure that i'm gonna get a bumper on the front or a hitch for a High-lift/ tow point. Thanks again guys for the comments and the advice. Aloha |
