I want to get rid of my daytime running lights on my 2002 quad. Any suggestions. I haven't looked to see if I can just pull a fuse yet, but I would much rather do a more complete job of getting rid of them.

Thanks,

CQ

You have daytime running lights? How did you get those? I didn't think they came with them.

This is how I got my driving lights to stay on with either high or low beams on. The DRL pin is indicted in there too. Don't know if your 2002 is the same but take a look and let me know.

I've did this mod to both of my 2000 Dakotas. Basically it allows for the driving lights to remain lit on high or low beam. It was a pain in the butt having the driving lights go off when you switched to high beam and I disconnected the DRL's while I was at it too.

This mod will keep the driving lights on all the time. Low and high beam.

This is what your'e looking for. The headlight relay box located on the inner part of the drivers side fender right next to the battery.

After you get the plug pulled from the box take a small flat blade screwdriver and pry the red retainer clip out of the plug. Get at it from the side where the arrows indicate and it should pop out real easy.

When you get the retainer clip out this is what it looks like.
Posted Image

Look down inside the plug and there will be 4 larger pins in the corners with 2 rows of 3 pins on each side. Take note where the plug clip is in this pic to make sure your'e pushing the right pin out. The pins themselves have a little raised divit on the side and are held in place by the tiny plastic "pin retainer" clips down inside the plug.[Green arrows] Take a small precision screwdriver or something very small to bend the clip outward from the pin a bit, then take another small screwdriver and push the pin down into the plug.

Push the pin down to about the level of the tiny plastic clip. Once the pin is recessed enough to not make contact, plug it back into the box and your good to go.

I've indicated the daytime running light pin also. Push that one back and you will disable your daytime running lights.

This info is for a Canadian equipment 2000 Dakota with daytime running lights.

I know this is kind of an old post, but i was wondering if all i do is just push the driving light pin in then that will let me run my lights on hi & low beam? My truck didn't come with DRL, i have to turn the knob and pull out for my driving lights.

If your Dakota didn't come with DRL then chances are you won't have the headlight relay box mounted on the fenderwell. Take a look and let me know.

What year is your Kota earl? There is a way to jumper the relay that turns your driving lights on and off to have them stay on with high beam as well. Could never understand why Dodge did it the way they did. Stupid!!

Cool. Let me check into it and I'll get back to ya. You should be able to jumper the relay in the power distribution block under the hood. I have 2000's as well so it should be realitively easy to fiquire out. I just chose to do it at the DRL box because I was disconnecting them anyway.

Nice 4x4! thats only a 3" BL? i think that will be my next purchase after the keys now that i'v seen yours. I know about the stearing extender, but what about the floor shifter for the 4 wheel drive? does that need to be extended? BTW mine is an auto so i dont have to worry about that but the floor shifter has me worried
where did you get the tow hooks? was it a home mod.?

The 4x4 shifter stick doesn't have to be extended but the linkage does. In the Performance Accessories body lift kit they give you an extension rod. Your stock linkage rod has to be cut in two to weld into the shift linkage rod to extend it. Mine didn't work out that well because when I went into 4HIGH the linkage over centered itself between the two pivot points and locked up. I solved the problem by cutting the flat plate that bolts up to the transfer case stud and extending it upwards. Kinda hard to explain without pics. If you decide to get a PA body lift there are a few things that have to be done differently to what is explained in the instructions. That and there are certain things that are unnecessary or can be omitted.

The tow hooks were on the truck when I bought it.
