Just like the topic says remove your clutch fan, as long as you have the electric fan you should have no problem keeping your truck cool. I have had mine off for about a year with no heat issues, even during the hot humid summers around here. This mod just frees up a few extra HP that would normally go towards turning the fan. |

Hate to brake it to you, but mine will overheat on the hot days when I'm not moving. In fact, I was traveled to Oregon and down the west coast in the summer of 05' and Kodabear overheated when I stopped in Hood River Oregon. The dealer found nothing wrong, but they were fools. As I traveled down I-5 into the valley of central CA, the temperature was 115F and everytime I came to a stop, it overheated. I'm lucky that I didn't blow the motor as the needle came close to pegging everytime I stopped for gas. As long as the truck kept moving highway speed it never overheated. A radiator shop was the one who diagnosed the problem. The temp was just in the red and the clutch fan was idling. He told me to get moving before the motor blows. I found a dealer in Turlock and they gave me the 911 treatment and I was on my way in an hour with a new clutch fan and the problem solved. During this last summer the engine would get hot enough to kick the fan on everytime I climbed a hill or stopped at a light. You don't need a clutch fan? Please! I plan on replacing my whole setup with a Flex-a-lite Extreme 180 (3300cfm) http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/180_b...ic_x-treme.html |

Well most people I have talked to or read on various boards have done this with no problems. Some say you can change the thermostat to a 180* but the e-fan should kick in if the temp is getting too high or if you put on your AC or defroster. If you plan on traveling in stop and go traffic in high temps you may need a larger e-fan but like I said I have had no problems with this mod, on the highway or in town. Maybe your e-fan isn't working properly either. Just a thought |

Could be the e-fan. Over the weekend the engine sprung a leak. Found that my 2004 has a 2005 cooling system. I am beginning to believe my 04' is a 03'/05' hybrid. I thought the hose was leaking, so I went to get a new one and low-and-behold, the 03'/04' doesn't come with an inline radiator cap and overflow. Seems that is an 05' hose and isn't available yet. The heart of the problem was the water pump. Replaced after 41k at 2 1/2 years, with $100 deductible. This is why you may be right about the cooling problem I am having. |

Sorry to hear about your water pump. I would probably recommend that anyone who is thinking about removing their clutch fan do some research on the other boards and make the decision for themselves, that is what I did and do whenever I am making any changes to my Quad. Research will always give you many pros and cons for any mod and at least then you can make an informed decision and have an idea of what can go wrong. Enough rambling for me, try the fan removal if you want I thought it helped. |

Exellent point about research, I guess it just depends on the climate and what you have done to your truck as well. |

Well, I;m digging up this old thread. I have had the fan-clutch and fan off of my 01, 4.7 QC, manual for over 6+ years now. Original fluid in the raddy, etc. I do have a 180 t-stat I put in about 6 months after the fan/clutch removal. NOT b/c of overheating. I live in a very hot/humid climate and almost always have the a/c on, at least on low anyways. If the a/c is on, the elec. fan runs constant. I have an 01, with no #'s on the temp gauge. It always runs just right of the lower hash mark, or 1/4-1/3 of the way from cold. In summer traffic (around Houston?- hell ya) it never goes over hyalof way up the gauge. No other mods except taking the belt driven off., no extra fans, no extra regulators, etc. It definitely adds HP and TQ, taking off the rotating viscous fan clutch alone, even iff the fan was hardly turning when cooler. |

I've had mine off for about a month now and no problems, although it really has not been that hot here. |

You should already have an e fan if you have ac. I took my viscous fan off and didn't really notice any difference except the temp went up a little bit. Not harmful but I put it back on because there was no point having it off
