Relocating your "intake air temp" sensor (IAT sensor) will help in the performance aspect of your Quadcab. This is a very cheap modifiaction to do. Total cost is going to be one 1/4" NPT plug, some teflon tape and some wire. Your IAT sensor measures the temp of the incoming air into the manifold runner and adjusts the air/fuel mixture accordingly. By relocating the IAT off of the hot engine and to some place cooler on the air intake system it will enrich the air/fuel mixture and give better performance out of your magnum engine. This is the IAT sensor: On the 3.9, 5.2 and 5.9 it is located on the passenger side of the engine. ![]() Unscrew it from the manifold and then wrap your 1/4" NPT pipe thread plug with a few wraps of teflon tape and screw it into the hole to reseal it. My truck has a CAI ( cold air intake) but this mod can also be done to a Quadcab with a stock airbox as well. The airbox will just have to be drilled and tapped for a 1/4" NPT thread. You will probably need to extend the wires for a stock airbox application. Pic of my relocated IAT sensor on the CAI tube. ![]() I'll get a pic posted up of where the IAT is located on my 4.7 4x4 and post it up here soon. |

Alta, By help in the performance aspect of your Quadcab do you mean power or economy or both? Thanks for posting your homebrews! Jeff |

It's going to help in the power aspect of things. A cold engine needs an air/fuel mixture that has a bit more fuel than a warm engine. By moving the IAT sensor your giving the sensor a more accurate reading of the incoming air temp and it's not getting mislead by the heat of the engine. It will not help in the economy of your Quad. It's an additional mod that goes hand in hand with the same principle as a CAI. Your pulling air from a spot where the air is colder and not heated by the engine compartment. Keep in mind that any horsepower gains from this mod will be minimal. However, if this mod is done and other mods are done seperately like a CAI, exhaust, etc., pretty soon the gains start to add up. PS: I have a few mods on Sully's V6 and it's a much faster truck than my 4x4 with the 4.7 |

OK, finally got off my ass and took a pic of the 4.7 IAT on my 4x4's 4.7. It's located on the 3rd intake runner back from the rad on the driver's side. Can't miss it because just like the IAT on the 3.9. 5.2 and 5.9 it has the brass fitting.

Hey alta, I do not know if you adressed this elsewhere but my 02 4.7 has a diferent IAT sensor setup. Instead of a brass fitting it has just a plastic twist lock contraption, is this common? I would like to do this mod but I do not see how without leaving my old IAT sensor in place to plug the hole and buying a new threaded one and puting it in my intake tube. And that is assuming the wiring connectiors would match up. heres some pics to give you an idea: ![]() ![]() if none of you know about this maybe i will try my above idea and post it on this thread. also opinions about whether it would be worth the effort would be appreciated. |

why don't you try what you were talking about? if the wires are the same, leave the old one where it is and just relocate the other. |

Because it is $60 for a minimal gain, and I have to buy books this week for college but if I do this mod in the future I will post pics and everything on this thread. I am living on my own making $16 an hour and going to college I have to be careful of every cent.

I wasn't aware of this before but there were changes from one year to the next on the 4.7's IAT sensor. At best it will cost you $15 for a new sensor compared to a .50 cent pipe plug for mine. |
