Well its been a while since i've updated this mainly because of one huge reason but ill go into that in details in abit

Im gonna start off where the last update was .... Been alot inbetween infact a whole circle tbh

Anyway i managed to get a idle pulley (thanks dad) off a honda that was small enough to fit in the gap i wanted with the way the alternator was fitted

Posted Image

Once we sorted out that it was just a case of bolting all the other bits back on and wait for the fuel rail ends and piping

So just a few pics of some progress was busy and it was late so not many

Posted Image

Posted Image

Sorry thats it really .... anyway i got Billetbitz to make up some ends for the reverse manifold and blanking plate for original then had a Local welder weld it all together

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Then fitted the manifold with the new spacers and then made a short term solution to the piping ... Still waiting on the new rubbers and pipe to come

Posted Image

Posted Image

And finally one day left before the airfield day my fuel pipes and ends turned up , This was the last stuff to fit , Which was actually quite a pain in the ass mainly due to the pipe routing and bolts all had to be chopped down and made to fit with the new manifold spacers

No pictures of them fitted etc but u get the idea !!!

Well after finishing at 2 in the morning on wednesday night and 3 on thursday night all was ready , After priming the oil pressure and making sure the water system was bled correctly and nothing was leaking i started the subaru , First time with no leaks or problems !!! all was looking good for the mapping on friday afternoon .

Mapping day

Well after double checking everything in the morning after some sleep :) everything was A OK and ready for the trip to fleet where i was meeting Simon (Jolly Green Monster Mapping). Being the first drive i was a little worried but everything was working great. Under simons advice i kept the car under 3000 rpm untill he could check the fueling and ignition stuff , Which ment it was a calm drive which gave me sometime to check everything was good . After arriving at fleet simon began plugging in the mass of wires , cables and sensor so he could monitor everything as we drove . After he had checked the idle map etc we pulled out on to the motorway to begin some other checks . First couple of runs we were on very low boost and it was responding well to the changes , third run we raised the boost to about 0.8 bar and the car started to feel like its old self again , Fourth run we raised the boost again and so on though to the sixth run when about 5000rpm simon made me step off the petal saying he had hurt something go on the headphone (knock sensor stuff) . I slowly limped back to the services about 0.3 miles away . As we where pulling in to the services i could hear the bottom end starting to rattle ..... My heart dropped after all those late nights and hard work me and my dad had put in had been wasted. Unsure on what had gone wrong i got the AA to collect me and started yet another journey on the back of a Recovery vehicle .... Yay :(

Posted Image

Anyway after atempting to do some work on friday after the mapping but in the end failing and just ended up damaging the bonnet in anger , Decided it was time to give up and get wasted .

This morning after building up enough motivation over the weekend i stripped all the gear back out of the engine and stripped the block down into its bare components again  . Which ment the 2 headgaskets have been wasted not to mention the other seals which will now need to be bought again ....

Posted Image

Anyway after getting down to the crank , conrods etc the problem was found on conrod number 3 , Dont know why yet but it had spun the shell . Will have more answer hopefully in a few days when i check everything else. Anyway ill let the pics do the rest

Anyway thats it for now , As you can imagine im pretty gutted by this and depending on the damage done to the crank might soon be alot of subaru bits up for sale .

Would also like to Thank Kev at Billet Bitz for the work he put into this car at very short notice , Top notch work cant thank him enough (PS will drop that money round soon , no car ATM :D )

Bad luck Steve. I guess thats one of the biggest downfalls of doing all the work yourself... you can't take it back and shout at someone!

Chin up though mate, I know you are dedicated and will be on the road soon.

Sorry things went shape.

Don't do anything rash, leave for a bit and things won't seem so bad.

Any idea what caused this Steve? with a freshly rebuilt bottom end with new uprated oil i cant see why the oil pump would of failed....without throwing the cat amongst the pigeons, whats the chances that is was "detting" whilst being mapped?

Wouldnt be enough to spin a bearing on a newly built bottom end, probs something stupid like a bit of swarf in the crank.

Starlet GT 1.3 forged engine, tdo4 turbo @ 1.25bar = 252bhp = SOLD :(

EDIT: Charade GTxx 993cc three cylinder turbo, 173bhp @ 1.4bar (should hit 200bhp with a larger throttle body, removing stupid high lift cams and a bit more boost)

DET can play a big factor in bottom end failures....
