Final got round to stripping the engine down and getting the parts cleaned up and off to the engineers for clearance checks and conditions etc etc All the pulleys ![]() Removed all pulleys , oil pump , water pump and belt tensioners ![]() Then removed all bolts joining the two halfs of the block including some plates where you can gain access to the pistons to remove the pins ![]() Then split the block and seperated crank etc , (not many pics was busy) ![]() ![]() ![]() Pistons and conrods ![]() ![]() And found a good reason to take the engine apart , When we removed the shells we found 2 of them had just started to go tho the outer coating and you can just see the copper showing though , So hopefully no damage has been caused to the crank , Looks OK but will wait on the engineers report . May not show in pic used my GAY i phone ! ![]() Anyway the heads are with the engineers being checked and the crank , case , pistons and rods are going tommorrow to be checked and balanced etc Now just playing the waiting game !! |

May as well forge it now its stripped right down... and dont forget fitting a new uprated oil pump.......and if you feeling flush speak to Bly about one of his baffled sumps, him an Wayne are both running one and they work a treat and cost alot less than the £500 Lateral Performance charge...£100 will buy one, well worth the money..

Dont think money is gonna allow for forging tbh , Id love to but i need to save for it and id rather drive the car for a year then do it , At least then i can you it . Im thinking about the graham goode uprated oil pump , People seem to like it + its cheaper than RCM , Is it really worth getting a sump baffle ? |

Naa probaly just road tyres , Heads returned from engineers yesterday , 3 tho had to be taken of due to some damage to a water way , So wil have to look into head gasket sizes !! never understand any of that ! . Also my flywheel came back after a serious diet ! Hoping the crank , casing , pistons etc will be back either today or early next week |

Do a little porting on the heads whilst their off and good gains can be had by porting the stock headers.. |

Had a few updates since the weekend , Nothing special just some bits that have come back from the engineers and some of the porting ive started on the heads Flywheel with as much weight as the engineers could get off safely , haven't had a chance to weigh it yet , will do some time ![]() ![]() The heads after having 3 tho taken off to insure they are perfectly flat ![]() Then took the valves , springs etc out ![]() ![]() ![]() Then started up the cleaning process by cleaned the valve area (forgotten the name )![]() ![]() Then i started porting out the exhaust exit on the head to match the gasket better and to match the exhaust manifold after i port that ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The porting is only gonna be mild , mainly because im no expert and i dont wanna damage anything , Ive started the inlet on the head also but im only taking out the lips so its as smooth as possible and some minor work on the V bit . No picture tho as my Iphone cant get any pics that look any good or infact show anything Also the block cases came back and they are all good . Crank has been polished and is being picked up tommorrow . Now just gotta finish putting it back together and its all ready |

Done abit more in between work and what not ! , Anyway finished off the porting work on the exhaust and inlet on the head Exhaust ![]() Inlet before ![]() After ![]() ![]() Then cleaned up the Valves with a dremel and a wire brush attachment Before ![]() After ![]() ![]() Also starting seating 6 of the 8 valves on the first head .... Fun fun fun !! ![]() And final the last bits i was waiting for have finally turned up Start the engine build on the weekend now ![]() RCM Uprated Water Pump ACL Competion Main and big bearings Full engine gasket kit Threebond block silicone Metal ML head gaskets Still waiting on loads more parts but they aren't need for the engine build so they can wait for now |

To be fair i only really do the easier jobs , I did the heads strip down and rebuild and most of the straight forward bolting together (modifying etc) but the engine itself , Pistons , Crank conrods and block i get my dad to do and i just assist , Its abit important for someone with no mechanics exp to try |

Didnt get anything done saturday had far to bigger hangover to bother doing anything . But sunday started to put the engine back together bar a few bits im waiting on still oil pump etc First cleaned up the blocks and made sure there was nothing that could damage any of the Pistons , crank etc .. Handy engine cleaning made it much more fun ![]() Then layed out all the bits on the table ready to put together ![]() ![]() ACL Competion shells ![]() Shell installed on Conrods ![]() Conrods fitted to crank ![]() Crank and conrods placed in half block ![]() Full block bolted (torqued) and sealed together ![]() View from in the cylinders ![]() Front pistons fitted ![]() Rear pistons fitted ![]() Rear oil seal fitted and gudgin pin blanking plates fitted ![]() Oil pickup , baffle etc , sump cooler and RCM water pump fitted ![]() All of the above was done on sunday , And tonight i rebuild one of the heads ready to go back on the block , Still got to port the other head , Got tommorrow off work so shall be doing that then ..... YAY hours of fun ! Few pics ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thats it for now , Hopefully get most of the other head done tommorrow and oil pump is spose to be coming tommorrow so hopefully if all goes well ill have it back in by the weekend Just got to modify the inlet manifold and get the parallel fuel system sorted and its ready for mapping etc ... Can see the light at the end of the tunnel |

Good work steve.. if it were me i would have had the blocks re-faced, mls headgaskets have a tendancy to leak combustion gasses when both mating faces are not super smooth. |

The heads have been refaced and the other were sent off to the engineers to be measured and checked , So should be ok .... he saiz

Been a while since i put a update on , Been a busy few weeks with un related car stuff and tbh a recent lack of interest in cars in general atm . Anyway i started so ill finish it Started by painthing the main block , Before ![]() After ![]() Cleaned up the head face and the piston face and cleaned up to make sure everything is nice and snug ![]() Bolted on head and torqued down ![]() Cams in and torqued up ![]() Other head and cams but in .... could be bothered with the same pics Rocker covers on Graham Goode racing oil pump fitted ![]() Idler Pulleys on ![]() Cam pulleys on and timing belt on and timed up ![]() Pulley covers on ![]() Flywheel on ![]() Clutch on ![]() With that the engine was fully built and today we dropped it in quickly On crane ![]() Engine bay before ![]() Half in ![]() All in after some gentle rocking ![]() ![]() Anyway thats it for now , We sort the rest out next week in the evenings , Hopefully be pretty much ready for next week |

Got a little bit more done tonight Got the exhuast manifold ported out to match head exhuast ports and bolted it on . Fitted the rad and intercooler ![]() Also got some beautiful parts made up from BilletBitz , As usaul top notch work 20mm Inlet spacers and some Very custom ends so i can adapt my fuel lines from rubber to Stainless steel braid ![]() Also been playing around with the inlet manifold to make the measurements for the reverse manifold and new Alternator bracket im in the process of designing ... hopefully should be done soon :rolleyes: |
