Definately a fuel pump mate. I have an external one exactly the same for sucking out fuel on mates cars when they get it wrong. Is it clunking when the tank is over half full? i.e broken and not just suffercating? By the looks of it that is a secondary aftermarket fuel pump. I can't confirm it because i don't know your car. Have you still got an "in tank" pump? Some cars have a second fitted to share the workload so one lifts fuel out the tank and the other pumps it to the engine. If it is just a secondary one mate I have my old RX7 one kicking about that you can have when i dig it out. |

Mechanical? As opposed to what? Gravitational? As far as i see it all fuel pumps are mechanical as they have moving parts (machines) and power supplies so they are electrical mechanical fuel squirting devices.

Mechanical pumps are driven off the engine either by cam or a gear the pump in the picture is electric and I would think it's been added afterwards for whatever reason |
