I took a day off from work and went to yeovil for a few Xmas pressies when i pulled up outside Argos and reversed into a space. Then my mobile rang so answered it with my engine still running. A copper pulled up looking at me and shook his head, So i thought surely he isn't going to give me a ticket for having my engine running while being on my mobile???

He didn't however he was going to give me a ticket for my front plate!!!!! After a few jokes like walking away from him and shouting run he decided not to give me a ticket but tell me that if the traffic please get hold of me they will do!!!

He did say i should be able to get a self adhesive plate and stick it on the bottom of my bumper without a problem with the police!

So what do you all think or do you have some other idea on where i can put the number plate??? But legally

I have a feeling MOT testers cant fail anyone for incorrect numberplate positioning/size, the same way they cannot fail on illegal tints...

I had a letter in the post yesterday saying my car had been seen recently displaying illegal plates. They also warned me they may take the personalised reg away from me. The problem is I have a space between two letters and a bolt betwen two 1's to look like an H, so my own fault really.

Mines too small and illegally placed, it'll stay that way until I get fed up with being pulled for it.

I am going to get some legal jap import plates made up though.

Its a good idea to carry round a legal plate with you so you can switch over at the side of the road. This should reduce the chance of getting an instant fine (depending on what mood they're in!)

its not the positioning - the newer Alpha Romeo comes with the plates positioned there as standard.

Posted this before but for those that didnt see it...

DVLA Number Plate Regs

Scrole down to page 3 and you will find a bit about the regs for import vehicles. Bare in mind that it doesnt cover ALL imports! The S15 falls into the catagory cause not only does the design of the car restrict the size of the plates but also it does not have EC whole vehicle type approval as it was never intended for sale in the EU Hence why I can have smaller plates . So, if your unsure, double check with the local DVLA as quite alot of imports still dont fall under these regs. Better to be safe than sorry.

Cheers

J..

Are you sure? It looks like your holder is the same size as mine:

Hence square plates are available. I thought the import exception only applied if you cant physically fit a plate with standard lettering in a gap... Where as ours have room to hang down below the holder...

The MOT regs state that on some import cars it is not possible to fit a standard size plate so a smaller one is acceptable

If you have a cut out like above as long as it fits neatly and the font and spacing is correct then it should be ok

See section 6.12 page 6 here http://z10.invisionfree.com/djcc/index.php...wtopic=6729&hl=

I've just ordered a couple of legal plates, which should fit both my front and rear bumpers nicely :)

No more worrying about 5-0 pulling me for for my plates  (apart from too and from shows when I'll have my illegally spaced front plate on  )
