Hi all,
Ive got my fmic fitted and running now but my question is...

Ive got a Square jap plate that will cover about 1/3 of the core when attached to the bumper.
Will this significantly reduce airflow to the core? Gt4oc say yes but no-one can say why, my understanding would be that air coming from the front will
theoretically will go under the plate and into the core of which it will cool the entire core? (Surely there will be air forced up to the top of the core?)

Thanks

you can buy plate adjusters that make the plate sit at an angle and there for pyshing the wind down onto the cone.

Can you not offset it like an EVO.?

Ive got a 3/4 size plate that blocks the top half of the intercooler. My thinking was like yours, the air would be forced up the underside of the plate. It hits 1.5bar and the intake temps are still obvioulsy far cooler than if it had a TMIC so i didnt see it being a problem.

Its not a prob having a plate slightly blocking an IC.
People make far too much of this. If you are running monster power maybe but most road cars are fine.

For instance the Celica and MR2 that use the engine both have hugely blocked intercoolers.
The Charge Cooler on the celica is blocked by everything apart from a bonnet vent and bumper vent and its sat on top of a hot engine.

The IC on the MR2 is sat at the rear/side of the car with only a small side vent as access for air and its fine.

put the plate to one side.

Starlet GT 1.3 forged engine, tdo4 turbo @ 1.25bar = 252bhp = SOLD :(

EDIT: Charade GTxx 993cc three cylinder turbo, 173bhp @ 1.4bar (should hit 200bhp with a larger throttle body, removing stupid high lift cams and a bit more boost)

Smaller plate and vents for the win :D

You want to cool your intake temps by every degree that you can. Like with weight saving, every little bit adds up.
