I know its not Jap but i'm sure loads of you know mechanics'. Hoping someone could help, My girlfriend has recently bought a VW Golf 1.4 16v year 2000 and it is cutting out while driving or at a juction basically what happens is instead of coming to a stop and the revs come done gradually to say 1000rpm her car just plumet's and sometimes fall's so hard it goes down to about 400RPM by doing so the engine just cuts out, also sometime she can be driving at say 10mph in 1st with the revs fairly high and then it will just cut out, also on idle the car takes ages to stay at a nice steady RPM it just flutuates between 400-1500RPM for ages. Would really appriciate any help trying to identify the problem. Should have kept the Teg lol. *EDIT* Also when reving the lights get brighter instead of dimmer. |

you need to chek if this is one of the fly by wire throttle linkage cars. (it has no throttle cable) if it is then this is a comon fault, the throttle body/control can gum up causing issues with idle levels and also hunting and occasionaly revving. if you take it to a garage that knows about this problem (i can reccomend adams garage in dorchester) they will strip it down, clean it out then reset it. if it gone to far you may need to replace the unit which if i remem isnt very cheap. one thing to remem is that a garage like the one i mentioned above can plug the car in and there will be a good chance they can pull a fault code for it. the other thing that goes on the golf is some of the vaccum pipes that are close to the throttle body so check them for leaks as this can also cause idle problems. fingers crossed its something simple but at least you know the common issues with these shape golfs hope this helps. |
