Rear Crank Case Seal Leak

I've got a suspected rear crank case seal leaking, as I thought it was maybe the engine with a leak, but its cleaner oil and smells a bit (which leads me + some others to think its the gearbox), therefore suspecting the above seal

Anyone done this? I presume its a gearbox off job but I don't really know what I'm going at, never needed the box off before..?

Cheers

well if its gearbox oil it wont be the rear crank seal buddy.

unless its coming from where the propshaft goes into the box, it'll most probs be gearbox out :(

Starlet GT 1.3 forged engine, tdo4 turbo @ 1.25bar = 252bhp = SOLD :(

EDIT: Charade GTxx 993cc three cylinder turbo, 173bhp @ 1.4bar (should hit 200bhp with a larger throttle body, removing stupid high lift cams and a bit more boost)

Well I keep getting conflicting advice

Its seems to be coming from the join between gbox and engine, but I can't tell at the moment as I can't get underneath it any better

If it's coming from between the gearbox and engine it can only be engine oil from the rear crank main seal or gearbox oil from the front motion shaft seal

Either of those will need the gearbox removing or as Lewis says from the rear prop seal on the gearbox that can be done in situ :)

Possibly Front motion shaft seal then...

Gearbox oil has quite a distinctive smell and taste it also usualy cleaner and lighter in colour than engine oil

The only other thing it could be is a leak from the clutch slave cylinder that's mounted on the side of the bellhousing, check the fluid resevoir level
