I finally got around to replacing the clutch on my car today :o

As I was going to remove the front lower arms to take the driveshafts out I decided that I would fit a Whiteline Anti Lift kit at the same time

First step remove the top mount intercooler after this you can acces the top bellhousing bolts the starter motor and the clutch slave cylinder together with a supprt bar. There are also some earth wires and a couple of wiring loom multiplugs

Then remove the turbo heatshield once off you can undo the downpipe to turbo bolts

Once the car is up in the air drain the gearbox oil remove complete exhaust system from turbo back, it will drop in one piece. The front U shaped beam and the propshaft

I then unbolted the lower arms from the chassis and knocked out the driveshaft rollpins from the diff, you can then pull the front shafts out and tie them up out of the way

There are two gearbox crossmembers to remove and the gearchange selector shafts including the remote cable for the reverse lift

A couple more electrical plugs and finally the lower bellhousing bolts

You have to remove the clutch fork pivot pin as the scoob clutch is a reverse pull so the bearing is attached to the cover, this you can get out by removing a plug on the side of the gearbox where the starter normally sits, then screw a 10mm bolt into it and pull it out. The clutch fork then wiggles free of the bearing

With the help of two more people and a hydraulic stand the 100kg box is removed :)

I also took the flywheel off so it could be refaced at a local engineering shop

While I was waiting for it to be done I changed the lower arm rear mountings for the Whiteline kit and sorted out the spacers for the U beam as this has to sit a bit lower to clear the new mountings. These are included in the kit

The thrust bearing can be mounted back onto the clutch fork before the gearbox is put back in you just have to snap in onto the clutch cover for it to locate

Then it was a waiting game for the flywheel to be done lots of tea and plenty of fags

The boxer engine looks tiny without the gearbox

I started the job at 9am and by 11.45 I had removed the gearbox, clutch and flywheel and taken it to the engineers. But I did not get it back untill 3.20pm so it was a bit of a struggle to get it all finished this afternoon, I am getting too old for all this rushing about

Finally the machined flywheel, may even be a few grams lighter ;)

Once the flywheel was refitted together with the new clutch it's just a matter of lifting the box back in and fitting all the crap back on again

The clutch action is nice and smooth with a low biting point and no judder

The difference the Anti Lift kit has made is awsome it has pretty much removed the inherant understeer and the car feels so much more planted on the twisties, I strongly recommend any Impreza owner to fit it

Going to get the four wheel alignment done next week to keep everything in check

I will be sleeping well tonight :)

Thanks Paul I was going to get some info on what to set it to other than standard

I may have a go myself as I got use of the lazer kit at our Halfords branch, but I may bite the bullet and pay for it to be done. Any ideas localy?

Protyre just up the road from you have always done mine with standard setings and do a good job not sure what they will do if you give them the settings you want though.

The Prodrive settings are meant to be good so they might have them (doubt it but worth asking) BUT there seem to be 2 sets,1 for high speed stability ,1 for the twisties.

Starlet GT 1.3 forged engine, tdo4 turbo @ 1.25bar = 252bhp = SOLD :(

EDIT: Charade GTxx 993cc three cylinder turbo, 173bhp @ 1.4bar (should hit 200bhp with a larger throttle body, removing stupid high lift cams and a bit more boost)
