Rumour has it that someone was killed whilst using it many years ago and since then the MOD havent let no one else use it.....Shame really because its twice the size on Matchems banger track and could be fun... ;)

You cant drive upto it can you?...isnt there a barrier stopping you getting in from matchems lane?

DS are looking into this site, and seeing what the MOD are doing with it.. yes someone was killed on there but the lease holder didn't have the insurance to cover racing.. that was 15 years ago... these are new times and new people in charge of these areas.. so something positive could come out of this...

The drag strip that Jay found has another function <_<

I found this after a bit of searching

I randomly met a chap (the uncle of a friend of my better half!) who used to work there. Qinetiq barnsfield is the one with the runway like construction and indeed it used to be a runway. it was the unfavourable wind direction runway for both RAF hurn (now the airport) and also RAF sopley (now an industrial area.) the site is as far as he was aware is no longer used to fly in and out of by conventional planes as the paved area of the strip is too narrow and the forested areas either side encroach too much. However vtol aircraft and helicopters do visit. it is preferred to park them there in a secure area rather than fly them into bournemouth airport. (which is one of the most ludicrously insecure comercial airports in the country) so your source who says he has seen vtol aircraft land there is almost certainly correct.

barnsfield has been tied up with vehicle testing for a long time now and the two round pads at either end of the runway are used to test turning circles, with the runway being used to test acceleration and braking. the very end section of the runway, past the pad, is set up with rumble strips for testing vehicle suspension. The site was almost closed down when the christchurch garrison of specialsit vehicle development and the royal engineers was largely shut and sold off.

the other two sites known as Qinetiq hurn are vehicle workshops and admistrative and theoretical /small labs. my contact was concerned with radio frequency interference issues but suggested that there were groups looking at avionics and weapons syetms. but he categorically denied that there was any weapons testing performed there.

What build a ramp and see if we can jump it? My car is to over weight to do this, especially with me in it!

was speaking to a guy who used to rally there a good few years back.. sounds awsome.. tarmac fig 8 that he said bend the tyres round you wheels you could drift it so fast .. alot more to it aswell forest gravel stage tracks with big crests taken wrong and you in the trees ,with you spleen hung from a branch  sadly there is little or no chance of getting it legaly as the mod are to hot with heath and safety............ but there are two entrances 1 next to the ski centre and 1 on boundry lane this being the safer 1 to get into. both with just chain locks and pad locks. but only being 2 ways in or out its a little risky ( getting cought) there are houses by the ski centre and a few houses in the forest are close but under cover of darkness could be done :ph43r:
