Anyone got one?
If so what size ,brand, contrast ratio, response time and how much was it.

I'm looking for a decent 32" LCD (mainly for xbox360 but will be watching footie so don't want any ghosting) but comments on different sizes welcome.

Cheers

I got a 42" Toshiba and never had any worries with it, great to watch tv on and the graphics it gives me for my 360 is the best ive seen so far!

It was expensive though, got it last year for £950

samsung are pretty awesom and better than almost everything for the price. They currently sell a 32" 1080p for £650 i think, or you can get an older non 1080p model like mine for around 500 probably.

If you are going to use it for gaming can i strongly suggest getting a surround sound system too, to me that made a bigger difference to gaming and films than going up to HD.

You can get a relatively cheap samsung kit, same as mine lol, for 200 which is dolby 5.1, loads of inputs/outputs, hdmi dvd upscaler and loads of other stuff. Its pretty dang amazing.

Seen ,for my price range, 1080P isn't avaliable but does it really matter?
It seems that adding 1080P can add a £200 to the price.

I've been told that samsung are 1 of the best at the mo and have one of their models on my list

Check out the Sony Bravia W series has been winning a fair few awards in what HiFi recently :)

I have had a Sony Bravia X series 46" for nearly two years now it still makes me smile even watching regular Freeview broadcasts

It is a full 1080p screen with 24p (24 frames per second) that is the industry standard for HD video

I have both a Xbox 360 and a PC connected to it at 1920 x 1080 without any ghosting or motion lag, the Xbox is wired by the component leads as it is the original non Elite version

You pay a premium for the Sony range but the Bravia engine is one of the best out there

Too bloody hot to go outside

Got my laptop with me I am at my parents ;)

If you can afford it try and get a 1080p set nearly all Xbox games are 1080 unlike that toy the PS3 that has to write its games in 720 to get a decent framerate ;)

Read reviews online to all the LCD's some of the big sets have only a 1024 x 768 res this will be ok for 720 but it's not full HD

I am back in the UK on the 31st if you want to see what 1080 gaming is like on a big screen pop over :)

I've seen 720p and that looks funky (got some more gaming end of August) but i haven't seen a 1080P TV for the price i want to pay and am not sure it's worth it (as i'm not going to pay for HDtv).
Thanks for the invite i may be contacting you about that cheers.

i will have to spend a lot more time (or money) getting the tv i'm happy with.

to be honest i dont think youl notice a huge difference between 1080p and 720p. I run my 360 with a VGA cable as it gives better quality for samsungs (a little research showed the quality change varied for different brands). Your best bet is to get down to a big currys digital and just eye the tv's up. Its one thing comparing stats but until you actually see the picture for yourself you wont know, just dont get chatted in to buying something you dont want by the store workers.

i still stand by 5.1 surround sound making a bigger difference so if you can factor it into your budget definately go for it!

for an lcd of 32" tv 720p is fine however for future proofing 1080p is better. the sharp lcd tv's get lots of awards for there standard def playback which is good if you want sd pictures with no ghosting.

whatever you do shop around i looked on one of my favorite and much used online electrical stores digital direct and saw this

http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/products_mo...roduct_id=17271

not much over £400

whatever you do find a tv you like the look of take down the model number then read up on it on avforums and also take a look on home cinema choice website to see if they have a product review so at least you can get the most bang for your buck. there really is such a big difference in performance of these tv's if you do your homework at least you wont get stuck with a lemon. and whatever you do dont get taken in by any salesman most of them dont know there ass from there elbow :D

the reason the vga input is better on the xbox360 on some tv's is because vga bypasses the tv's internal scaling hardware and puts exactley what is input on the screen. where as if you use hdmi or componant the tv scales it to its native resolution and in the cheaper tvs this scaling hardware sometimes is not very good or at least not as good as the xbox360 output.

ok thats enough of geek mode for me today :D :D

Another vote for Samsung here. We've got a 32", I seem to remember the contrast ration is very high compared with many others.

I heard that the internals are the same as Sony Bravia. :dunno:

i would save the extra couple hundred quid by getting a 720 instead of a 1080p.I had a LG 32" 720p a few years ago for movies/xbox live, and i think the picture on that was exactly the same if not slightly better than my upgrade an LG 37" 1080p full HD......TBH the differences are very very minimal...

for an lcd of 32" tv 720p is fine however for future proofing 1080p is better.

Why does 1080P give future proofing? (serious question)

the best performance available at present is 1080p everything av is moving that way. so the in a couple of years when the new consoles come out will prob be designed to work best at 1080p blu ray and other high def stuff works best on 1080p (works best is vague i know but if a program or game is designed to run at 1080p then it will be downscaled (watered down)for viewing at lower res's)

if i had a choice of getting a 720/1080i lcd now or paying an exra £75 and getting a 1080p lcd i would advise anyone spend the extra money then in a few years time when you get your bluray etc it can run at the best and you wont think hmmm maybe i will get a new tv soon so i can get the best picture. £75 now or another £400 in a few years time.remember when you spend that few hundred pounds on a blu ray player or alternative you are doing so because you have seen how good the picture is and you want the same thing.

in the next 6 months i will be selling my 42 hitachi hd plasma which works great and looks amazing but i have hd dvd and bluray and an xbox 360 all are designed to run at 1080p in the case of the blu and hd dvd at the best 1080p/24 fps, my hitachi will only do 720p and 1080i hd resolutions so as i want a 50" tv i will get one that does both 1080p and 1080p/24 then i am future proofed for the next 5 years or so and will be happy that i cant get better picture quality.

i apologise if this is geeky to some but i like my films and and gaming and i like watching them as well as i can when i am at home.

i am not offended if you ignore this advice but i always think that a choice is better made if its an informed choice and at least now you know and can choose to call me a geek :D :D :D

the difference is minimal the smaller you go but there is a difference it is mostly dependant on the set you buy and the internal hardware it has. you can buy a 42"tv and it look amazing if it has good hardware you can also buy a 42" tv and it look worse than a 32" it is not the size of the screen it is the hardware inside which is why you need to read up on these things before you buy. find reviews and peoples feedback online to find out what is good and what sux.

if you full hd lg is not much better what exactly are you running in it that is actually full hd????

I bought a 26" Panasonic, I spent ages looking at LCDs and the panasonics were just that little bit better than Sony IMO.

If I were you, with your budget I wouldn't worry about 1080, my mate has a Toshiba 42" 1080 and I prefere the picture quality on mine.

Cyman i don't think you're a geek just someone who is passionate about their audio/visual.
Bluray doesn't bother me as i can't be bothered with buying a new format (and i do download a few movies ;) )

I'm going to see Ciscos when he is back from his hols

It would seem that i will have to spend a lot more time looking for a TV i like and has the options i want/need

cool. the sony has good right ups.

there are people on here saying that they have looked at other tv's at a friends house but one very important thing most people dont actually read up on CONNECTIONS AND SETTINGS. they just plug in a normal dvd player via scart and think they are watching hd or at the very least a better picture than before this isnt the case and they will just be watching a big picture at the same resolution of a smaller screen (nearly all big tv adjust the resolution to fit but dont necesarily improve the picture quality). i guess what i am trying to say is unless you are looking at a correctly setup system (say xbox360.through componant leads, setup to show 720p,1080i or whatever resoloution) it will always by default be the lowest setting. also make sure you view from the correct distance the larger the screen the further away you need to be to view correctly or any screen will appear pixalated (unless its a big screen with 1080p correctly setup then it will rock :D :D )

good luck finding a nice lcd i hope all my info hasnt fried your brain to much :D :D
