I read on the celica forum recently here: LINK

That jap imports must use super unleaded! :wtf:

Can anyone confirm the validity of this statement? I'll hold my hands up if im wrong but are you sure you HAVE to use super? Obviously if you were track racing it might be better or wanting a sporty ride but surely the engine will still cope?

Any suggestions?

Fuel in Japan has a higher octane.

Unless your car has been mapped for lower octane fuel you may be at risk.

I'm no expert but I think the extra couple of quid per tank is worth it. :)

Oh right!!!

Any idea how I might find out if it has been re-mapped?

Rob is 100% correct on the jap fuel octane.

If it has not been set for our unleaded you are at the risk of detonation.

Get it on a dyno and see how it runs on regular unleaded?

They should be able to see how the fuelling is and if it's running lean.

Yours will be mapped for jap fuel mate. I can caused detonation if you use 95 ron. Switch to Vpower or tesco 99 as the 3sge thrives on them. Im sure it will be ok, NA cars are not so much at risk as turbos.

Oh right!!! Shit! I totally didn't even realize all this!!!!

I've been running on 95 for over a year now with no problems, and driving hard here and there too!!!

If I switch to 99 does that in theory mean that I might be able to increase my BHP a little?

You should find it runs a bit smoother and there may be a very slight increase but probably not noticable.

Alex....Tescos 99 or Vpower will be fine in your car without any octane booster.

mmmm! This could explain why it jumps and kangaroos a bit at low speed, I thought it was the clutch initially but I got a new one and still jumps, then the other day when I replaced my fuel filter i noticed a slightly smoother feel!!!! So now I believe its a fuelling issue!

This may help smooth out standing starts too!!! Im intrigued now!!!

Damn I only filled up the other day too!!!!

So as mine is 94 does that mean that I should try 97 octane rather than 99?

confused?

Not me mate but we did hear the tyre screech, looked back than saw a few cars pull over. We thought another motorist had hit a Scooby, didnt realise it was 3 members involved until we got to the pub.

anyway we had better get back on topic before we get told off... ..... :P :D

Cool!

Thanks for the heads up guys!!! That was probably the quickest and most useful information I have ever received!!!

You could have saved me my car & potentially helped me cure a few niggly power issues.

I'll post up when I stick proper fuel in as to whether it actually makes a difference!!!
