tbh i'd prefer a touch of black smoke over a melted piston anyday ;)

Starlet GT 1.3 forged engine, tdo4 turbo @ 1.25bar = 252bhp = SOLD :(

EDIT: Charade GTxx 993cc three cylinder turbo, 173bhp @ 1.4bar (should hit 200bhp with a larger throttle body, removing stupid high lift cams and a bit more boost)

Sticking around

When I had the courtesy car (Focus Zetec TDCi) I was in front of my mate thrashing it to the end of redline in every gear and he said black smoke came from the exhaust on what seemed to be every gear change, and that car was brand new, less than 5000 miles!

think its common with turbo diesels, and true lewis better rich than lean. I know it gets a bit choked up sometimes when driven gently and when i give it some boot this smokey thing happens so i aint worried its just a collection of unburnt fuel gettin blown out other than that odd occasion it burns nicely, thanks for your help chaps.
