Hi all,
I could really do with some advise from people who aren't specifically involved with Celica Gt4's.
Basically ive got owners telling me that 10w50 fully sinthetic at £50 a time is all i should use... bearing in mind i have to change it every 3000 miles i think thats going to get mighty expensive.
Surely theres decent oil for the 3S-GTE engine which doesnt cost £50 a time.
Partco offered me Fuchs 5w40 for £20 inc vat but i really dont know what i need.
Just to make things worse, i need to get it by Saturday!
Cheers

go on opie oils website and see what they recommend, they give discount for members of djcc but they are pretty cheap anyway. And their delivery is super quick, if you ordered it tonight, it would be here before the end of the week

surely a 10w50 oil is the same regardles of cost otherwise it wouldn't be graded the same?
i could be wrong but it stands to reason the grading is what you look for not price or brand, and 10w50 seems to be the most commonly used oil grade on a turbocharged petrol engine.

Starlet GT 1.3 forged engine, tdo4 turbo @ 1.25bar = 252bhp = SOLD :(

EDIT: Charade GTxx 993cc three cylinder turbo, 173bhp @ 1.4bar (should hit 200bhp with a larger throttle body, removing stupid high lift cams and a bit more boost)

There shouldn't be any need to spend that much. Toyota in bournemouth are doing 10w40 on special for £16 ATM, that'd be fine. Also you should only have to change it every 6k unless you really thrash it.

I wouldn't use 5w40 personally as i've read a few stories about 3S-GTE's burning it.

yeah and TBH sparky, you dont take your car over 5k rpm anyways

so no need for 10/50, just stick with a good 10/40, especially if your changing it regularly.

I used silkolene 10/50 in the starlet purely because i was doing a few track days and it was going to get literally thrashed at around 4-7k rpm for the whole 15 mins :)

Halfords did a deal recently on Castrol Magnatec 10/40w for £20 - its what I always use its gotta be good, thats what the toyota rally team used!!!! Better than that would be Castrol Edge which i think is £35-£40 iirc!

Also TRD oil filter from fensport  If you get one from them can you get two please and i'll give you cash on saturday?

Because it works! I recently chucked on an OEM one and the pressure changes seem to be a bit random and twitchy, I think that its restricting flow through the filter. Celicas are quite happy at high RPM and I'd rather take comfort in knowing I got a good quality filter and oil to lubricate my engine!

They are only £13.60+VAT anyways about twice the OEM price - a price i'd rather pay for peace of mind when pushing the throttle!

10w40 is fine for a 3sgte. You dont need to change every 3000 miles, only every 6 thousand. Its not an Evo!!!!

Maybe, but a mostly stock car 6k is fine. If he isnt thrashing it around should be ok.
