Hi,
got the choice between the Sigma S30 or a Toad Ai606 both are Cat 1 sytems,
however my local installer seems very keen to fit the sigma.
Has any one else had expereince of either?

I can't seem to find any reviews anywhere to see if the Sigma is any good.
The Toad certainly looks good but that won't make it any safer, i'm sure. ;)

i preffered toad imo, im using toad Ai606  i add a perimeter sensor on it and its bloody sensitive to warn people who look on your windows and i add an extra speaker on it to catch more attention.

I have a Sigma alarm, but on occasion when parked under/next to either mobile phone masts or a elec sub station the EM field makes it go screwy
No real biggie, unless I forget the code after 'breaking' in, as it takes 30 mins to reset if wrong three times

My advice .. get the Toad

toad ai606 for me, haven't heard much good about the sigma alarms tbh and clifford seem to be getting a reputation for unreliable alarms.
amnesia's suggestion of cobra isn't a bad idea, some good reviews on them.

but out of toad or sigma i'd choose toad everytime.

Yeah, i'd rather have Toad, the guy just didn't seem keen on fitting them. They are the only local firm (to me- North Devon most of the time) but are well established and have been around years, so you think they would know. I wonder if they just know they can do a better job with the Sigma maybe? surely any alarm is only going to be as good as the guy fitting it.

I've heard Clifford can be a bit complicated :wallbang:

The Sigma appears to have a keypad to overide the fob if it goes flat. Dunno how necesary that is really.

I hate making spending decisions. ;)

Who is doing it for you and do you have a number for them fella?

i am going sigma again as they are simple and effective alarms.

Had 3 cliffords and will not have another, not tried a toad alarm but i hear they are good alarms.

Motatec in Barnstaple. Which is where i'm based (most of the time). So you think they are OK then? £330 fitted is bit steep i think, but as i say not much choice round these parts.

I’ve had three alarms over the years, Toad, Sigma and now a Toad again.

I can’t recommend Toad enough, I think Clifford are poor tbh all my mates have problems with them.

If i was you i would go for the toad, I installed one last week, very good alarms.

I have a clifford and hated it when i first got it but after a few months of shouting at the company to fix it i wouldn't have any other alarm!
Cliffords are only as good as the installer. Great care and time needs to be taken when installing one, I would have installed my own but i needed the certificate!

You can, install it yourself and take the car to AIM and get them to write a certificate saying the alarm works and has been tested to CAT 1 standards etc. They just check over the cabling and test the features and write down serial numbers etc and jobs a gooden.

Cost me about 25 quid IIRC.

No real need for the overide-pad-thingy the Sigma comes with then?
I assume the Toad remotes are reliable then.

You need the pad to program the alarm mate, just hide it in the dash somewhere.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that clifford's are rubbish but both the ones ive had were a bugger for false alarms and once this happens to many times specially where you live it does not make you that popular and more to the fact that once it happens to many times people will eventually see it as another false alarm whenever it goes off even though actual theft might be in progress :wallbang:

Last year I put another Clifford (viper 480xv) in the truck and it does not seem to like a hot summers day mostly and tends to go off to :( .. might just need going back to the installer and a simple adjustment made (hopefully without having to turn off any of the sensors  ) and could be a good one :)

The Ai606 I had never gave me any problems with false alarms but fortunately cannot comment of any other aspect of its effectiveness.

Ive always been a clifford man for new installs but slowly loosing faith and could be swayed for a toad next :)
