I changed my cambelt today and followed 3 different guides on how to! When I fitted my new Nissan cambelt, the notch on both cam gears, the markings behind them and the line on the belt matched up. Also with the crank pulley on, the orange most anti-clockwise marking lined up with the mark on the lower cambelt cover. However, once i've barred the engine a few times to make sure everthing was ok, the marks on the cam cover, crank pulley, cam gears, and behind the cam gears still line up but the lines on the nissan belt no longer do!!!??? i've barred quite a few times and it's still the same. Could someone please tell me this is normal. If not i'm stumped! Will the lines on a cambelt only line up when you first put it on then when you bar the engine will they gradually move away? Please help!!!! |

The lines on the belt are just for a installation guide as long as it was all ok when you fitted it it will be fine Once the engine has been turned over or run then the markings on the belt will move |

Not doubting you at all, but are you absolutely, definately 100% sure? I don't mean to sound rude but i'm just worrying now that i might damage my baby, i thought that might have been the case but i needed to hear it from somone in the know. So the line on the cambelt will move away from the original position? I take it thats beacause not all the pulleys are the same size? Thanks for your response! |

You need to make sure that the cam pully's and the crank are in the correct timing position when you fit the belt the markings on it are to confirm that all is aligned correctly Make sure you have the correct markings then turn the engine over a couple of times by hand. The timing marks should all line up again but not the markings on the belt Also make sure the belt is tensioned correctly, if you are not sure get help Where abouts are you? |

Yeah thats what happened. All lined up, tensioned, then barred the engine over by hand and had a brain fart when the markings on the belt weren't in the same position. I'm in Weymouth mate. Thanks again. I'll hopefully post good news tomorrow
