well here is the name you've all been waiting for..... :D

This model is called....the Fisker Karma....eh? i hear you say?

Posted Image

With the introduction of the Fisker Karma, the world's first luxury plug-in hybrid, Fisker Automotive, is poised to change the landscape of the automotive industry. In the past, being eco-conscious often meant sacrificing something for the greater good of the planet. But with the Fisker Karma, luxury automobile consumers will have the ability to buy an environmentally friendly vehicle without sacrifice – a vehicle that willstill deliver the superior style and luxury they are accustomed to.

Taking a novel approach to merging beauty and style with an environmental
conscience, the Fisker Karma will offer consumers the ability to drive the car
emission free for up to 50 miles a day, provided the car is charged every evening.

It's feasible that if consumers follow this daily routine, they will only need to fuel the car but once a year. This means it will not only cut down on pollution and global warming, but on a consumer’s gasoline budget as well.

The Fisker Karma is proof that environmental cars don't need to compromise on style and luxury. The Fisker Karma features a cutting-edge plug-in hybrid technology, penned as Q DRIVE, developed by Quantum Technologies exclusively for Fisker Automotive. This Q DRIVE technology will provide a base for all future derivatives from Fisker Automotive.

The Karma's Q DRIVE configuration consists of a small petrol engine that turns
the generator, which charges the lithium ion battery pack, powering the electric
motor and turning the rear wheels.

Statistics show that the majority of pollution from automobiles occurs on consumers' daily commute to and from work or dropping the kids off at school. Currently, more than 60% of Americans and Europeans are driving less than 50 miles on their daily commute. If this 60% of commuters would drive a plug-in hybrid like the Fisker Karma, we could see the fastest possible reduction both in oil consumption and emissions - all without sacrificing their daily driving habits.

The Fisker Karma will offer partly self-contained climate control, as consumers will
have the option to purchase a full length solar roof that will help charge the car and provide cooling for the interior cabin while the car is parked. Additionally, FiskerAutomotive will offer consumers an option to purchase a set of solar panels for their roofs or garages where they can generate electricity during the day to charge the car overnight…again cost and emission free.

The first of its kind four-door plug-in hybrid premium sports sedan will have a starting price of $80,000 (around £40,000). Initial deliveries of the Karma will commence in the 4th quarter of 2009 with annual production projected to reach 15,000 cars.

.....as agent003 has suggested this IS my dream car B)

Just think, only filling up once a year...bliss!

i take it people have seen Jeremy Clarksons latest DvD about Supercars? yhe? well the plug and play motor on that got beaten dead, by a table!!! and when conducted a road safty test, the car drove into the table at 30mph, or rather, as near as possible. the table never moved and had 2 little dents, where as the car was totally oblterated! spewing deadly battery acid all over the road. needless to say, harmful to the environment!

After all the hybrids and electric motor powered, solar powered, cow shit powered, flying hippy machines i have seen. i think ill stick to my fuel guzzling, ozone annhialating, more than reliable, beautiful little civic, ill be long dead by the time tjhe earth melts anyway.

Its weird all this global warming tripe! All these manufactures producing low emission cars for fear that the world is going to dye and yet more emissions and contribution to the OZone layer come from a cow's ass than our exhausts!!!

They should put catalytic converters on cows! Posted Image

Batterys have come a long way since that video was made, they are a lot safer, a lot smaller and can hold their charge for a lot longer. If it wasn't for all the manufacturers of Oil filters, Spark plugs and the miriad of parts you have to buy we would now be driving Electric/Hybrid vehicles.

It's going to take time to become accustomed to these vehicles and just like the Smokers who have become accustomed to being ridiculed for it being bad for their health these Vehicles will one day be the norm and the Petrol driven car will be a thing of the Past because it's bad for our health....but we already know that.

...but for the time being enjoy :) :drive:

Hmmm...

Quote:

Tesla files suit against Fisker Automotive
As we recently reported, rumors have been swirling regarding Henrik Fisker's involvement with Tesla Motors and its upcoming electric sedan prototype known as the WhiteStar. As is often the case, there's apparently some truth to the scuttlebutt, as Tesla has filed a lawsuit claiming that Fisker Automotive is using stolen design ideas from Tesla sourced when Fisker Coachbuild was employed by the young EV automaker for the styling of its sedan.

According to Tesla chairman Elon Musk, "We could not use the Fisker styling. The styling was substandard compared to what he unveiled for his product. He gave us an inferior work product, and it's obvious why." In the process of working for Tesla, the lawsuit contends that Henrik Fisker and a few of his associates stole design ideas and confidential information related to the design of hybrid and electric cars. Fisker has since announced his upcoming Karma hybrid-electric sedan. Tesla seeks to have Fisker Automotive stop using any design ideas garnered from its relationship with Tesla, and any money paid to Fisker Coachbuild returned along with other unspecified damages.

what i dont get, when they design and make an electric car, why the hell do they got to make it look like a complete Mad Max reject? take the Hondas attemnpt with its jazz, do they not realise that body styling over the rear wheel were out of style when stone wheels went out of fashion? and no matter how many angles, stright edges and bubble domes you put onto a car, its never gonna look good?

But that Tesla, now i wouldnt feel embarassed driving round in that, think they are starting to realise that people dont want a car that sticks out like a sore thumb and prone to getting keyed.

ive wondered that aswell, all these plug and play motors, with the fact that in a normal car, the altanator keeps the batteries charged, surely in electric motors a 2nd altanator would be able to keep the car battries charhed and keep the motor running, a complete self comtained system the needs no and gives off no fuel and fumes!

it is possible aswell, back in my military days, the rovers we used as communications platforms had 2 altanators in, 1 for the car and 1 for the radio batteries. So it could totally be possible.
