I was getting fed up with my starlet on the weekend (manifold on, boost leaking somewhere so seem to be making similar power, though it is 0.4bar less than before so good sign for when i get it fixed) so i decided to start dreaming aka looking up cars and finding out insurance. I was thinking pulsar as they are awesome and my mate has one and he would die if i had a car faster than him lol. That was too much. So i looked up an S13 200sx, it came up surprisingly cheap with a bodykit wheels exhaust intake mods etc, came out roughly the same as i pay currently on my starlet but with an extra years NCB. This is where it got weird, i changed the age to a newer one, thinking s14 strawberry face, cand it came out quite alot more. Arse, so i put it back to how it was and for some reason it had decided to increase by roughly £250!! i was like wtf, so i pressed back over and over until i got back to the original value, edit car, changed nothing, jumped again. Feckers were onto me mid quotation!! looks like i wont be importing a pimp s13, bugger. |

I use confused.com for getting different quotes just to get a rough idea. It lets you store 5 IIRC and then you just have to amend a couple of details for a new quote.

Insurance companies work a bit like bookies; if a lot of people are signing up, they put the price up, if they not, it goes down. I think this is the main reason quotes very from hour to hour. As rob said, the comparison sites let you save a quote so if you get something really good you can come back and accept it days later. |

the comparison sites are a load of arse though, i get declined on them, go to the company that declined me, fill out their online form, and get a really good price. I checked and my current insurer declined me when i put my exact same details in confused.com, its a load of wank if you ask me. |

Comparison sites are good for what they are, a comparison. I'm not saying use them for insurance but it gives you a fair idea of how different cars compare to each other. I would always tell people to go to Sky Insurance as they have been by far the best deal for me the last 2 years and now there is the club discount it will be even moreso.

elephant have been ideal for me, sky were a rip off as were adrian flux, wanted 100-200 pounds more than elephant, also a lot more hassle to start the insurance with flux |

I used to use Elephant all the time but found after a few years of being with them they were no longer competetive and Sky beat them by almost £200. Horses for courses as always. I think a lot of companies do offer specials for firt time insurers. I know for a fact that Sky will price match too.
