Starlet GT 1.3 forged engine, tdo4 turbo @ 1.25bar = 252bhp = SOLD :(

EDIT: Charade GTxx 993cc three cylinder turbo, 173bhp @ 1.4bar (should hit 200bhp with a larger throttle body, removing stupid high lift cams and a bit more boost)

Paul i really think you have lost all idea of what makes a scooby a scooby...wasnt the test no different to when Clarkson hammers cars around a track and then hands the keys over to the Stig..?

People buy scoobys for their rally heritage not school runs, comfy ride, spacious cabin etc etc etc. Their bought because they used to be the nearest thing you could get to a road going rally car.

Wouldn't be a problem for me because

1 No impreza has looked good (functional and possibly menacing)

2 People who buy cars because of how they look are, imo, very shallow.

admittedley i would change the rear lights

lol I wouldn't buy a car purely on looks, but I would not buy a car because it looks horrid!

I know what you mean Jay, Cossie's used to be the road rally cars to own, but at a price. The impreza brought the road going rally car within reach of a lot more people!

I have always found it hard to separate the evo and scoob, but in their latest incarnations their is NO contest!

Bollocks i perfectly understand what makes an impreza,4wd and turbo charging makes an impreza not what it looks like or some twat on tv whinging about it ,this car has no rally heritage as it's not in the WRC yet,so if it crushes all oppositon would you buy one?

The recent versions of Imprezas have been poor in the WRC but that hasn't stopped people buying them.

Why did they not take it to Angelesey to the test track like they did with the WRX hardly the same as a Top Gear test.

I didn't buy mine for it's rally heritage, it's a lot more practical then my old 205gti and better built yes it came with 4wd and a turbo.

The image of Subaru has changed from rallying to what they can do on the road people like (Andy F ,Zen Performance,Litchfield imports)

My comment about buying cars for their looks wasn't a dig at you (i hope you didn't think that) but the Japanese press proved that the new Sti is faster around a specific racetrack faster then the more expensive Evo X.

So an ugly, cheaper car wouldn't persuade you to buy it?

Then im as deep as a puddle.

Nothing wrong with having looks. In fact lets face it, my MR2 was one of the most stunning looking cars around. But when i put a much more powerful engine in a didnt like it as much.

For me in a car how i can make it look is very important. I like people to say WOW nice car.

If the new scooby was faster, more reliable and cheaper than the EVO, I'd still take the EVO.

I still miss my FTO, it wasn't as fast as my nissan and actually cost more to run, it did however turn heads. I actually had a little kid ask his dad why his car didn't look nice like mine

Of course this car has no rally heritage but you would of thought Subaru would of atleast built on what they already know.

Apart from 2 extra doors how is the subaru more practical than a 205?..higher insurance, more expensive to repair, fuel economy...so being more practical is the main reason you bought one?

Speed limits/cameras stop you enjoying your car on the road hence the big rise in trackdays/airfeild days etc so for me the image hasnt changed that much the subaru is still doing what it does best.

My insurance isn't higher as i'm now older, fuel economy i can get 25+mpg because as you say the speed cameras stop you for having fun.

I bought one simply because Sterte started importing cars and the 205 was boring (i've had 4) and had a couple of nice imprezas,my mate had a UK one and it was a lot of fun being 4wd and turbo charged was nice but if they had an Evo i may have gone for that.

The prices can be more expensive ,true, but in standard form imprezas don't break as often as french hot hatches trust me :)
They've built the new impreza on a 4wd ,turbo charged basis what more can they do?
It's been the same config since 1992.

nakamura do you really think people are going WOW there's an MR2?

The proof is in the pudding...the car may well sale but to who??...existing owners or people who have never owned one?

I really cant see many existing owners running out tomorrow to put a deposit down on one. Obviously there will be some people trading in their scoobys for the kudos of having the new model but how long before they trade back..

personally i think thats out of order!!!!...every one has different tastes and opinions there ARE people out the who like MR2's or obviously they wouldnt have sold any.............being different is what makes the world and this forum interesting or i would have just joined a subaru owner only club!!!

I'm not saying the MR2 is crap or his opinion on how it looks is wrong i'm just querying his comment.

Jay do Subaru care who they sell it as long as it sells which in japan and the US it's got quite healthy sales (in all formats)
