My brothers engine in his L200 recently gave up and died. It tooks us a lot of searching and eventually Jap auto parts told us they had one.

£822 and a month later they finally delivered the engine to our mechanic. It wasn't out of an L200, but a car of some description  Our mechanic had to do a fair bit of messing around to get it to fit. Then after fitting it...it burns more oil than the old engine  So much for being a 45,000 mile engine!!!!

Now I have to have the engine removed and sent back to them! Does anyone know where I stand legally? Its gonna cost a fortune to sort out now :( More than the bloody truck is worth.

How much warranty did it come with and when was it fitted?

I assume you have located the fault as well?

E.g. turbo or over fuelling or piston rings etc?

It has a 3 months warranty and was burning oil from the word go. Its done about 200miles and is not almost undriveable. There is no turbo, its a N/A 2.0 petrol engine. The mechanic isn't really interested in finding the fault, its a replacement engine that is burning huge amounts of oil, it needs to go back.

There's no replacement for displacement !

If it's not what they said it was (ie a L200 enging) then I would imagine you have quite a good case.

Have you contacted the people you got it from ?

Give trading standards and/or the local CAB a ring to see where you stand.

They are VERY difficult to deal with, but they haven't said they won't replace it yet. I just want to know where I stand with asking them pay for my mechanic to remove their crap engine and send it back to them!

Hmmm... I doubt you will get them to pay for removal, but they should cover postage costs.

Well they talk a good talk. He sounded like he's gonna pick up our old engine and drop of either another second hand unit or a recon. It took a month for the last one to turn up so I'll reserve judgement.

Ask for it in writing (email) and keep a note of when you phoned them, who you spoke to, and what they said.

Fingers crossed you won't need it, but just in case ;)
