since last summer my gt has been loosing water, it has been pusing water out the rad, so it just gets lower and lower, and it is bubbling with the cap off. just done a compression test and has come up fine, with 160ish across the board over 4 tests. any ideas people? |

im not to good with cooling systems however my old rs2000 used to bubble up out the header and the head was fine like yours it turned out to be the thermostat that was knackered. fitted a new un....problem solved. |

if its loosing water have you checked all the coolant hoses for leaks and check the rad/overflow isn't cracked? how does your temp gauge read? does it say its all fine or is it overheating/under normal running temp? if the compression test came out fine maybe check the oil incase its leaked lower down than the compression chambers? trying to think what options it could be, possibly a dodgy oil system? if the oil system isn't doing its job to cool the engine down as it should then the coolant will be working that bit harder. |

could be a small crack in the head that only pressurises the sytem when its hot and maybe so small doesnt show up as major in the compression tests??? def need to know what the temp gauge is showing under normal running. does it say norm but the rad is bubbling?? if it was me i would start from cold keep an eye on the temp gauge keep touching the top hose of rad to check it gets warm slowly then check the bottom hose to check that the themostat is opening. after 5-10 mins the temp gauge is still normal everything is hot but the bottom hose is still cold then change your themostat. if both hoses get hot then keep it runnin until the fans cut in. if they dont then you have a sender gone and that can cause boiling as everytime you stop or slow down the rad cant keep the coolant temp down causing it to boil and pressurise. if neither of the above it could be a blockage in your rad stopping it cooling well enough you can tell this by touching the front or back of the rad in dif places once the hoses are hot and seeing if there is uniform heat or if it has cold areas. if it does have cold areas its not flowing and either need plenty of flushing to try and clear it or a new rad. another option is the water pump is on its last legs and isnt pumping quickly enough although this is highly unlikely as normaly the bearings normaly go first then they leak. not sure if this helps but it should help you rule things out. si |

yeah from first impressions sounds like headgasket/head problem |

Could be lots of things... Water pump HG Cracked / blocked hose or rad Get it down to Triton - they can put dye in the coolant to check for HG probs. |

don't believe so, although i have always started it up, then do somin else on the car while it gets hot, lol. i'll go check in a bit, if it does its headgasket aint it? thats the thing, everyone is saying that it is such a small crack maybe that the compression test isnt showing it, but its bubbling just on idle. i would take it down to triton, but the car is off the road, can you buy the dye in shops, or anything to test for exhaust gas's. if any one has got one, be great. well i'm trying a new rad next week, got a mate selling a brand new racing radiator for £60, so thought whether it works or not doesnt matter |

if you want better info mate you need to be more precise. you say it bubbles on idle....is that when its cold as soon as you start it or when its very hot because it makes a difference. if you go through the checks of my earlier post you will get a much better idea of whats going on dont start spending money replacing bits until you have identified the exact problem. si |

just been outside inbetween the rain, just left to idle, it takes a good 6 minute's for just 1 bubble to appear, then a streem of tiny bubbles after another minute, which stop after a few seconds then start again 30 seconds later, then at about 10 minute's regular biggish bubbles, although no big bursts, car is at about normal running temperature after about 10. temperaute gauge stays still once it is hot, doesnt rise or fall. coolant hose's are ok temperature wise (what you said about getting hot and cold) one thing though, and i never thought of this as didn't think it would effect it, i think the expansion bottle may have a leak, very small one, could this do it? as the rad cap is a 1.3 bar, when it reaches that, water pushes out into the expansion bottle? when lower, the water gets sucked back in, if the water is slowly getting lower in the expansion bottle, it would just suck air in eventually yeah? making it look like my coolant is going? and as the overflow on the expansion bottle just goes to the side of the bottle, its hard to tell if it is leaking. i've filled it up just now, and will keep an eye on it for few days, if it is this, is it possible to be the problem? although i still have a few bubbles, although a few owners have said they have this, and no problem |
