I need to fit a new sump this weekend but am just wondering if I need to use sealant on the new gasket to get it to seal properly? If so, what kind is best? The gasket seams to be made of cork.

Thanks :D

generally if you use a new gasket the idea is you dont need sealant i thought? maybe run some engine oil around the gasket before fitting it, its recommended you do that for oil filters, sadly i dont have my manual with me to see if its the same for sump gaskets on a honda (would of thought its the same principal).

Its actually on a Vauxhall Corsa :ph43r: I still haven't managed to get my MR2 back from the insurance company yet.

There was a gasket with it but I just wondered if i needed to smear any paste on it before fitting to get a good seal. Jus spoke to a mechanic friend and he basically said the same as Andy: you don't have to but it doesn't hurt.
