I was thinking about rotaries. Whats the point of them? Rebuild every 60k, constant vigilant maintenance. One mistake and huge engine failure!

Why do Mazda use these over standard engines?

Dont get me wrong i love the RX7 but im just wondering why!!

Lightweight, power to size ratio huge (as monka pointed out) as in a rx-7 it's a 1.3 that produced (in the final models 276bhp).

Yeah i think just, small, light and powerful.

I don’t know why their so inefficient. After all there’s no big lumps of metal that need to change direction thousands of times a minute.

Guess its something to do with low compression ratios

As said really. Very small and light and capable of producing massive power, very simple to understnad and work on providing you know what you're doing as there are only 4 moving parts.

..and they sound awesom when they've had a bit of porting work done! :)
Everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

60 K rebuilds is a myth(more like 20k-only joking),because the rex can now be picked up for relative peanuts, people can buy them on tight budgets. They then get a decat, boost controllers,sh£tty fuel, etc, without any of the other supporting mods and guess what- they run lean, get hot and its rebuild time. The first modification to save up for in my opinion is a tuneable ecu,a stand alone ecu for the rx7 is about £400 for a power fc,subsequent modifications can then be mapped slightly rich for safety. The rex will then go on running like any other jap performance car, there are many high mileage rx7s in the usa some with over 100k without rebuilds
P.S you only ever here the horror stories,no one usually posts up how there car is running without any problems.
