I select first at about 20mph in most cars its fine if you match the revs with the speed prior to selecting the gear.

Reverse gear does have a syncro, I'm starting to wonder if some of you guys actually know what a Syncro is lol.

Thats not really the correct way to drive though is it??

You can select any gear by rev matching without even using the clutch but it won't do much for the longevity of the gearbox.

Define correct?

Say it was a tight hair pin then match the revs into first and use the power to pull you out the bend.

Neo I'm sure ive read numerous times on the ITR forum that reverse doen't have a syncro.

What I mean is you don't generally put the car into first at 20mph all the time... agreed it certain circumstances you might but not in general and almost certainly not in everyday road use.

Was just thinking about what car to get next. I would love a skyline but dont think i'd like the running costs. Then theres the 200sx which would be nice. I still have fun in my vti, but recently i've been looking at integra type r's mainly the dc2. There's one in ferndown up for under 6000 with 38,000k on the clock. Looks good and is standard looking. I trust honda engines to get trashed and still go on. Does any one know of things i should look out for when buying one. Also noticed that it had 4 stud wheels and some others have 5. Or is that a brake conversion. Any help would be good. ;)

Might be worth looking at a new shape Celica.. they cant quite match a teg performance wise but there still good fun, very reliable and cheap as chips.

Spot on Rob, I barely use first. Its a gear purely design for initial pulling away on the road. Racing is different hence why gearboxes dont last 200000 miles.

All a syncro is there for is to match the gear that your going into with the gear that you just shifted from so when you change gear the hear that your in is going round then you select the next gear as you do that the syncro will make the next gear match the rpm of the gear you just came from making gear shift smoth.

so when you select reverse you will ALLWAYS be at a stand still so the gear your in is not going round hense the reason for no syncro in reverse as you dont need to match the two gear speeds.

also if you had a syncro in reveres you would prolly be able to select it as your going along with some bad effects

Well I recently just had my gearbox replaced in my FTO as the reverse syncro had fallen apart, thus not allowing me to engage the reverse gear.

Good idea but really want to stick with honda or get a 200sx or skyline.
