im hoping its worn valve seals if you can change them with the head on my mates seam to noice a small puff of smoke on cold start up but the rest of the time to my knowledge its ok, i dont think its smoking on wide open throttle. i need to find out if you can change the valve seals in situ, other wise it will have to be head off

Stevey would be the best bet as he has had his head off. Usually if its just smoke on start up it can be the valve stem seals. |

just been reading some posts on the sxoc and they seam to think you can change the seals in situ either with the compressed air method or the chord/string in the cylinder and setting the piston to tdc method. i have had the head off mine during my full rebuild, and it was an annoying job changing the valve springs with the cylinder head removed ![]() the stems seals were not replaced at that time as they had not arrived . |

pretty unlikely that the plug would be wet with oil if the stem seals were gone, i'd do a compression test before you start changing things

i change some valve seals that were leaking on a 205 and the plugs were wet with oil, the piston rings were fine so is there a reason behind that comment lewis? might be different on a 200 i dont know, but if the valve seals are leaking then oil will still get in the compression chambers the same as it would with worn piston rings surely? just asking for future reference

ok, but the plugs are in the middle of the four valves in the head, so if the seals are weeping the oil will drip onto the piston, but they have to be pretty fecked to do that, doesnt explain why the plug would be wet with oil, i could understand it being fouled but where its in the middle of the valves i wouldnt think it would get wet from weepage. I'm not ruling it out but as a mechanic you always start with the easiest things first do a compression test then if its all good you can rule out a hole in the piston! etc etc

i started the car yesterday evening and then pulled the plugs out to show my dad, the plug was fine and the piston was clear im going to have a look this morning and see what i can see, i.e if oil has dripped down over night or if the piston is still clear, and if it is clear what happens to it just after first cold start of the day. my mate forgot his compression tester last night but that is next on the list. |

ok i compression tested the number 2 cylinder today and the results are spot on as to when i rebuilt it 145 psi i re-checked the top of the piston and the spark plug and they seam ok, may be its after a hard drive at full boost its seaping oil in,i dont know? but took it for a run again today with stock 16psi boost pressure and all seams! to be ok.
