Hi all, i was wondering if anybody would be going to Le Mans this year? Ive not been before but it sounds like a laugh. Its on the 14-15 June but i will be going on the thursday during the day as its night practice that night and it gives me a chance to nick some pit passes from work and have a meander through the paddock. Plus it sounds like one big piss up lol. Anyway was wondering if anybody from here would be there??

Yeah I can't wait. I have been to the Nurburgring and Spa for the last 3 years on the trot so am looking forward to a different experience this year. I think with the crowd of people we have going it should be a lot of fun.

I am also half tempted in going to Germany again later in the year, but may well end up going somewhere hot with a nice pool and beach instead.

Hell yeah B) Le Mans is awesome nothing else like it for atmosphere and fast cars!

Will be my 9th time this year i think (tbh ive lost count ).

26 of us in 10 cars leaving Tuesday evening from Portsmouth to Le Harve, back on the Monday evening.

Were rolling in style this year massive marquee, 3.3 kw genorator, lights, tv, mini motos, gas BBQ, fridge freezer to keep the beers cold, car stickered up etc etc B)

Thursday daytime and friday daytime you will be allowed into the pits anyway to watch the pit crews working on the cars :D But if you have a spare pit pass going then we have plenty of cold beer on offer ;)

We will be on Bleu Nord as its pretty much opposite the grandstands and is only a 5 minute walk to the circuit. Techno Park is a bit further out as its over by Houx Annex, but its still a pretty good campsite - don't think its one of the crazyest campsites tho.

Big piss up is an understatement, once you get there you will understand that tho  24 hours of racing 96 hours of drinking :guinness:

I will dig out some pictures form last year

Maccy this explains what le mans is about... our trip last year (thanks to Mikey)

"Mikey"

Le Mans 2007. What an adventure! 6 days, 24 hours of racing, 920 miles 306 bottles of beer, countless laughs, and BBQ heaven

It was a proper early start, having to leave Bournemouth at 3am to leave enough time to catch the ferry at Dover for 6am. Halfway across the English Channel, the boat completely cuts out. We all did one outside to check what was going on, to find the boat drifting 90 degrees to the way we where going. The captain then decided it would be a cracking idea to scare the shit out of me with the fog horn.

Any way, once we got to France, French immigration didn’t take too kindly to Brad having no front number plate, and promptly confiscated both our passports. They said we would only get them back once a number plate had been attached.

Posted Image

Martone and Craig then set about decorating their cars with pink tape

Posted Image

Posted Image

Weather was a bit nasty on the drive down

Posted Image

Chilling out at a French petrol station

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Martone struggling with the French toll booths. This was funny as f&*k to watch!

Posted Image

So we arrived at our campsite, and promptly set about cordoning off a large pitch with Craig’s “borrowed” orange fencing. Gladly, we go here early. They usually have designated spaces per pitch and are usually pretty small. As we where there early, we made our own pitch and I scuffed out all the pitch markings. Job done!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

The boys laid claim to their rooms in hotel B-rad with masking tape.

Posted Image

Track was within a 2 minute walk from our pitch, and within full ear shot.

Posted Image

With a large stock pile of beer ready for the evening, and no way to cool them down, Brads Dad came to the rescue with a Co2 extinguisher, and nicely chilled a box of beer for us

Posted Image

Posted Image

It just so happens that Brads dad used to be a chef, so he became the designated BBQ man, to which we are all extremely grateful for.

Posted Image

So, it was time to go check out the qualifying. I didn’t get many pictures of this unfortunately.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

This was from the first night on the beers

Posted Image

Just after that, we had a torrential down pour. Unfortunately, we had rain everyday we where there. One of the marquees didn’t look too healthy after the rain, and all the poles where starting to bend. Not good.

Posted Image

Posted Image

To hold together out beer pyramid, we used silicone. As loads of the stuff was lying around, Martone siliconed beer bottled to a metal post, along with some wine bottles, more pic’s later.

Posted Image

Then Brad found it and siliconed my shoe to a wine bottle lol

Posted Image

Some of the beer labels found their way onto Steve’s car

Posted Image

Day 2’s pyramid

Posted Image

We took a trip down to the Mulsanne straight, a part of the track that is public highway and that you are allowed to drive down. This turns out to be a mass fest of pissed up people, and lush cars, with a few antics thrown in. Pictures explain everything really. . . . A very good part of the trip, and certainly not to be missed.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Who recognises this Supra then?? It’s local to Bournemouth.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Then we went to go and check out some of the classic cars

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Hmmm . . . . Interesting!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

After seeing all this lot, we headed back to camp to get a spot of lunch and crack on with the beers. Unfortunately, while we where away, some nasty winds destroyed our camp. The marquees where blown over, and one was completely f%^ked up. All the stuff that was left out, tables etc etc had all been blown around. Not a very good sight.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

The wind was strong enough to do this to a main support beam on my marquee . . . .

Posted Image

Then, with the world being as small as it is, on of Brads Dads mates who he hadn’t seen in years turned out to be camping next to use. He thought we where all policemen due to the tape we used.

Inside our camp, we had a “no smoking” rule. As this guy light up a cigarette, Brad found the fire extinguisher and blasted him in the face with it. Proper funny!

Posted Image

Martone's siliconed bottles

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Only at Le Mans can you buy a racing engine . . .

Posted Image

Posted Image

Beer pyramid coming along nicely now

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Back to the racing. .

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

This guy had passed out/fallen asleep within 40 min's of the race starting

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

MMMMmmmm, lunch

Posted Image

Posted Image

This French guy was wasted. He was arguing that Martone’s wheels where two centimetres too wide for French roads, and hence illegal, which is balls by the way. Still, it was entertainment!

Posted Image

Posted Image

But, before we went out to do the bungee ball on Saturday, we had to finish the beer pyramid.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Finished!!!!! 306 bottles of beer. Not bad between 4 of us in 5 days.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Once all the beers had been finished, we all headed over to the track. I can’t remember the circumstances, but me and Steve where ordered to go on the bungee ball (after some sort of bet, I can’t remember). Left over money in the food and beer kitty paid for it. It was f&*king awesome, and although it was proper dodgy (the harness wasn’t done up properly and I was falling about quite a bit), I will be doing it again next year! Stevey has a better video of this somewhere . . . .

Video –

After this, we had a good stroll around, but soon started falling asleep. So it was decided to head back to camp. On the way back, some lads where messing about with a couple of space hoppers. This soon turned into the biggest game of space hopper football you have ever seen. It would put the “giant football” night to shame. There must have been around 70 people taking part until it popped.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Next day it was time to go and check out some more racing. Me, Brad and ‘Tone went up in the Ferris wheel and got some good views of the track, along with a few shots.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Oooops

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

After the race had finished, me and Craigy P went to go on the rob. We managed to get into the pit lanes even though we shouldn’t have been there. We also managed to get into a few garages and even spoke to the Ferrari team manager who explained to us why they had to drop out of the race (something to do with a coolant leak).

Posted Image

Posted Image

I’m not sure what It is, any ideas?

We then blagged our way into the back of the pits where they load up all the cars and tyres. We shouldn’t have been there either. It was an awesome sight as we got to see the cars, wheels, tyres and all sorts close up. After walking around there for a while, we climbed up some stairs and got into the hospitality lounges, again, we shouldn’t have been there either. After this, we went back into the grandstand and started chopping down signs and banners, which will be gracing the garage walls at my house, Brads and Craig’s. They are fooking huge too!

Posted Image

After the race, we all popped into Arnarge to enjoy a meal. Me, Brad and Martone where in Craig’s car. On the drive out of the campsite, there was a bit of the campsite that was rather muddy. Steve unfortunately followed us down....

Posted Image

Posted Image

Then it was time to arse about on the grass!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Everyone knows how deep BMW arches are. Craig’s were at least 3 inches deep with mud by the time he had finished

Posted Image

French Pikeys robbed anything that wasn’t nailed down

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Unfortunately, Steve’s splitter “fell” off

Posted Image

Posted Image

All rounded up by an awesome sunset / night sky

Posted Image

This year was the best so far, due to the people we went with. It was a shame about the weather, but it’s a wet one every six years.

Should be chaos with 26 of us

Thats if you make it over there... I don't think you will survive an hour at Le Mans  :P :guinness:

Maccy I have had a look at the Technopark campsite, it over by Karting Nord not Houx Annex as I previously said. So its still fairly close to the track, but not to the Village/ Start finish, also it doesn't seem to have showers!! Which is a bit rubbish as every other campsite I've stayed on has had a shower block!

If you want anymore info or questions let me know

No worries mate, we will be on Bleu Nord which is opposite the main entrance gate just look for a beer mountain flag and England flag and a fridge full of cold ones :D

There are still Bleu Nord passes available from www.1st-tickets.co.ukhere. I would avoid Technopark if its your first time as its not too newbie friendly and doesn't seem to have showers!!

Ferries it up to you really where you want to sail from as pay, dover is really cheap but a bit of drive, whereas poole/ pompy are more expensive but about 600 miles less...

But I would book sooner rather than later as it gets sold out quick!
