http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...00&max_mileage= been talking to the gf the last few days, and she's well into cars, driving them, and actually getting her hands dirty. and have been thinking about getting a track car uptogether, just somin that is cheap, and doesnt really matter. as a track thats what it will be, purely track, so dont really have to worry about anything, whats everyone think about the corolla's? the one above is somin like i'm on about, just somin that can be stripped to the bone, doesnt matter if it gets nocked or scraped. but somin with potential. the one above is just an example, but is the sort of thing i'm on about, what do they handle like? |

nice cars mate i owned 1 just before i bought the civic. the 88/89 model has a slightly better/faster engine aswell iirc so that would be a nice bet. they are actually really lightweight standard, the body panels are aluminium so do dent easy but weight nothing. if you got 1 for a track car and stripped it out with an induction kit and exhaust you would have a seriously good track weapon in my view. i picked mine up for £300. |

£300, where the f&*k from so good cars then, this would be a dedicated track car, completely stripped out, every unnessacary ounce lost, carpet, sound proofing, head unit, headlining, everything. and once the money gets saved the engine will get sorted |

they really are just a 1.6 yes, same engine as the mk1 mr2 has. revs to to about 8800 rpm iirc. i found mine on ebay for £300 and it was so close by i rode my bmx for the 5 miles to pick it up lol. look on ebay, i seen 1 earlier going for similar money in better condition. believe it or not the value of them at the moment really is about £300-400, though somebody has fully restored one and believes they can get near 2k for it, dreamer springs to mind, going value on a minter is a mere £450-£500. |

LOL 500, no chance, they are becoming cult rare cars as are all the old hot hatches, a mint one is EASILY worth 1k +. as for the body panels being alloy, why is it that most of them have both front and rear arches rusting? Good choice of car tho, great engine as andy says, they love to be ragged to the death and the high milers are just as good if not better than the low milers, the engines seem to loosen up lol |

Looks like a good place to start Strip it totally of everything thats not necessary, add some strut braces, get rid of those wheels and maybe add some new bushes as I expect with that mileage they maybe a little worn. It would be a fun little car then

Corrola- good car, but it might be a bit expensive to run as a cheap track car. Things like a spare set of wheels, brake pads and suspension components you may find difficult to find and expensive when you do find them. I worked on the theory that if a lot of people bought a model of car then a lot of people know a lot about them and spares are plentiful and cheap. I ran a 205 Gti, with a mate, for two years. Tons of people have them and spares are shit cheap, ie brake pads £12 front lower suspension arm with ball joint (bent it when I spun) £32 The car cost us for two years track daying including buying the car and fitting another engine (£120 off ebay), brake pads, three sets of wheels, consumables and rebuilding the front suspension £800. I'm not saying you should only buy a 205, just be careful what you buy as it might cost you more to fix than it did to buy. Drive fast, don't crash. Dave |

look up the value i'm sure you'll find its not that high at all. mine got written off when somebody went in to me, the insurance company looks at the going value of them at the time, this was about a year and a half ago, the going value was £350, i doubt its gone up that much in a short time. my rear arches were rusting but the fronts werent despite some paint being missing, im pretty sure most of it is aluminium, but either way if i could push it up a slope by myself it must be light. |
