The postman's been busy all week delivering new kit and now it's my turn getting it all fitted. This weekend i'm hoping to: * Fit 40mm lowering springs * Clean brake callipers and paint them red * Grind off lower manifold heatshield and fit heat wrap * Fit switch into headlight control box to make lights go back down when I flash someone with the sidelights on. * Fit switch in stereo so I can manually control when the aerial goes up * Fix spoiler * Then some * And finally give it a good polish if it's still in one peice This will be the biggest mod i've ever attempted so any tip would be greatly apreciated Here's a quick picy of the new kit:

I need to do this - it's bloody annoying isn't it. Also needs lowering at some point  What springs are they ? (Look like they're progressive spring rate, but what make ?) From what I have read on MR2OC, make sure they springs fit into the spring cups properly or they will clunk when you go around corners. Apart from that, it's just nuts and bolts - how hard can it be ??

Yeah I know.. just seams like such an obvious design flaw  The springs are made by Spax. There not the best but I got them on special offer for £50 so can't really complain. They are progressively wound by just haven't got the rubber bits like the dearer Tien's I originally wanted. Yeah just nuts and bolts.. the only thing i'm dreading is the bolt that holds the droplink onto the strut which is, apparently, always rusted solid and almost impossible to remove

Soak them in WD40 or something similar the evening before (NOW if you're doing this tomorrow) and you should be OK. Good luck ![]() PS - you don't really want the TEIN springs on the MR2 - they are a bit too harsh for road use from what I have read. SPAX should do just fine on standard shocks

sounds like some good work to be done this weekend. have fun with those spring clamps though, they are an absolute pig to work with as they tend to twist/slip. you'd be much better off with the type that has twin hooks top and bottom, if you struggle i've got some you can borrow. have fun and keep us updated when your finished

Well all didn't quite go to plan today. I managed to get the aerial switch in and paint the rear callipers but the damn droplink bolts eluded me from fitting the lowering springs ![]() I can just about turn them with a breaker bar but to actually undo them you have to put an alan key in the middle and twist a bolt around the outside with a spanner. Even when I got a mate to hold the alan key with some mole grips and beat the spanner with a hammer, I still couldn't shift it. Also tried a blow torch and loads of WD40 but to no avail. In the end I tried to split the nut but just ended up damaging the threads Oh well.. new droplinks all round I suppose

Bummer ![]() Is this the front, or the rear ? If it's the front could you not remove both sides AND the ARB in one go ? Might be awkward though... |

I tried the rear first as it's supposed to be easier. That might be possible though I'm not sure where the fixings are for the ARB or if there would be enough room to feed the struts out. Guess it might even be possible to just drop the strut down and fit the spring while it's still attached to the car hmm I’ll have a look tomorrow.Cheers |
