Exhaust Replacement; i think i need to replace the Skunk2 :(

due to how loud the skunk2 exhaust is (personally i love the sound and can live with it) and not wanting to remove the decat (due to exhaust restrictions) i think i'm going to replace it with something that has performance with a quiet tone. i've been looking at 3 made by tanabe, 2 of them boast a sound level of only 93db or less! so im thinking even with the decat i should still be fine for tracks. opinions on which would suit the car best would be appreciated.

or is there any other suggestions anybody has?

using my db meter its either 104 or 114db without muffler gaz, with the muffler its either 112 or 100db dead. not sure which readings are correct, i think its the 104 and 100db readings, but some tracks have a limit of 98db, so id be over.

thanks leesa, its the same style as my skunk2 which is swaying me, same looks but way less noise.

Get the flow rates and use the best one. Thats what you will want when you whack your tubby on.

theres no flow rates on the tanabe website it just says how they are all designed for maximum possible flow/power with reduced noise to ciomply with the american 95db limit.

it has a mid pipe silencer built in to the system and a removable tail pipe muffler. the noise isn't any noticeable different with or without my decat.

Starlet GT 1.3 forged engine, tdo4 turbo @ 1.25bar = 252bhp = SOLD :(

EDIT: Charade GTxx 993cc three cylinder turbo, 173bhp @ 1.4bar (should hit 200bhp with a larger throttle body, removing stupid high lift cams and a bit more boost)

Tanabes are loud.

I heard a B16b'd MKII at a meet with an SMR and it was VERY loud. Sounded awesome though.

Supersprint make very nice, very subtle performance exhaust systems.

the smr is loud, but the medallion touring and concept g are designed to be quiet but give performance, listened to some soundclips on the tanabe website and both are quiet compared to the smr.
and i did wonder if the turbo would quieten it down or not, harvey seemed to think it will but a few people have said the more air will make it louder, so i have no idea what to do. i'm probably going to keep the skunk2 until the turbo is on and then i can see what the outcome is, if it makes it louder i may have to switch back to the cat converter and put the silencer in, not that they seem to make any different.

just found this post on another forum:

if you're boosted it will muffle plenty. (a turbocharger is actually classified by the government as a muffler, and it does decrease the noise)

if you're n/a it will be louder

so thats kind of what i wanted to hear, the skunk2 will stay for now :D we'll see if it really does get quieter or not with the turbo. atleast i have another excuse to bolt on that turbo 'it'll make my car quieter, honest' lol.

Thats just what I was about to write :D

i wonder if the insurance company would reduce the quote if i said i'm only putting one on to muffle the noise of my exhaust lol. and i never knew in america it was classed as a muffler to the government, how cool are americans lmao.
