if you get an alarm proffesionly fitted and insurance approved it 'should' lower your premium yeah? what happens if they are fitted, but not insurance declared or approved. i'm pretty good with wiring myself. just wondering as if you dont declare wheels exhausts etc it voids your insurance, so does not declaring an alarm do this? |

I think if the alarm is Thatcham Approved it has to be supplied and fitted by a authorized dealer so you can get the certificate to prove it. I found the following online Category 1 - Alarm and Immobiliser Systems Category 2 - Immobilser Systems Category 2:1 - Alarm Systems that upgrades existing Cat 2 immobilisers to a Cat 1 system |

Some companys have a catagory for alarm fitted but not professionally fitted! Just say your thinking of fitting one and ask how it would affect the premium! |

i know the catorgory's and has to be prop installed to be insurance approved. what i mean is, if i fit an exhaust, and don't tell mr insurance, it invalidate's it. so if i instal the alarm my self, this is on a mate's van, would it invalidate the insurance as technically it's a mod. he only wants it for the alarm/mobiliser as his van will have tools and ice in it, and on his dad's van insurance it aint worth the money to do it professionly. |

I doubt it will invalidate it. Its like fitted a car stereo to a degree. If you are in any doubt why dont you just contact the insurance company in question and double check? Just in case they have any small print which covers this. I imagine you would be ok though. |
