There are many ways to tell if someone is a bit thick. You can sit them in a room and ask them to push various bits of plastic into a wooden box. Or you can ask them to describe a cloud. Or you can carefully measure the distance between their eyes, the height of their forehead or the length of their arms.

But there’s another, easier way of establishing whether someone is two spanners short of a tool box. Just ask them this simple question: “Are you wearing a Subaru rally jacket?” Because if they are, you will need to speak more slowly.

Problem with Clarkson he changes his mind more often then his pants.

There is/was a big discussion on scoobynet about his opinions and they are slating the new car which, imo, is pathetic just because it's not a saloon or the styling isn't like the classic shape etc, etc.
Do have to agree with the amount of sad bastards who wear the SWRT stuff, funniest one was at Japfest a few years ago when there was a whole family in SWRT gear.

Wait until you go to the bmouth rally then.

Tbh though I dont think there is actually anything wrong with wearing the merchandise. Each to their own I guess.

I am also sure the new Sub has its merits. I must admit I am warming to it a little. I just find the self opinionated way JC writes kind of amusing.

I've been to the sunseeker rally many times and most of the people i've spoken to actually work with the rally teams.
Fair play if they want to wear the stuff but dressing up the whole family in it is a little weird imo as i don't Evo owners wearing a lot of Ralliart gear (perhaps not so noticeable as it's black and red not bright blue  )

i love clarkson but his opnions do change a lot (watching through old Top Gears is quite interesting).

The looks. And I’m sorry but I’m still not sold. The standard car looks like a lightly melted Rover 25. With its flared aches, this looks like a lightly melted Rover 25 with bingo wings

The new STi is certainly a step forward in its class in terms of performance (everyones favourite japanese testers prove it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBhP7KAd-oc - Starts at the back, finishes at the front!)
As far as everything else goes though its shamefully disappointing from a car enthuasts perspective. I can understand what their doing, and to be honest as a business it makes sense to ditch the agression in the styling department... becuase the long and the short of it is that their are more non-enthusiasts then their are enthusiasts (especially in the way todays world is going) so its pointless aiming your car at a shrinking crowd.

I bought my Impreza partially because of the performance, but also because of the no-holds-barred styling...(oversized scoops, massive wings, arches that look like the car has been fed steroids from birth... and a customary 'i dont care if my car just sold crack to your rabbit' attitude! :D ) i very much doubt i will get a 2008 version (unless its amasingly good looking in the flesh!) for the same reason i opted for a MY05 on the 06 plate instead of the MY06 because it just doesnt ignite a 'i must have that' feeling inside :(

Funny thing is that Clarkson also said on the Topgear review that given the choice of the Evo and Impreza he would take the Impreza everytime (same as Hammond) so perhaps he also needs talking to slowly :D :D

Well hammond hasnt been the same since his crash so take everything he says with a pinch of salt lol. Saying that im not overly keen on the new Evo, well I am and im not.

As for enthusiasts most people it would seem buy jap cars nowadays for reliability purposes and for street cred more than anything else so from a marketing perspective to make more money sell to the masses as you have said.

Buy jap buy jap... when there are equally good cars out there from Europe you know. But anyway it will be nice to see a new Sub in the flesh.
