Just discovered this handy little website...

http://www.askmid.com/askmid.aspx

Type in your registration number and see if your car is on the "Motor Insurance Database".

My car is not on it, had same problem in the summer when I got stopped by a unmarked BMW because I flagged up as having no insurance, he made a couple of calls and said was sorted.

So I must be due another pull soon :(

It's all a bit cack TBH. Membership to the MID is voluntary and you have to pay to be a member. Most decent insurance companies are members, but it's not mandatory (yet).

So it is entirely possible, and valid that your car may not appear on the MID. It doesn't, however, mean that your car isn't insured. Unfortunately the 5-0 don't all know this, and just use it as an excuse to go over your car with a fine toothed comb, looking for problems.

I actually wrote the SAS program that does the MID extract and update for LV... the processes involved are in no way perfect, and it's also not instantaneous - it can take a couple of weeks, or longer, for insurer's data to get to the bureau.

More info here... http://www.miic.org.uk/

See if your insurance company is a member of the MIB here... http://www.mib.org.uk/MIB/en/Members/Default.htm

Sucks doesn't it... the MID doesn't belong to the Police - they are a customer of the MIB, and pay for the service. The database is only as good as the data sent to it. Assuming most insurance companies have monkeys doing their IT (like me :D ) it's no surprise that the database is pants.

John what I meant was after my talk to the police in july, I was told that the insurance details had been updated.

But after looking on that website its still not registered.

So is it ok as far as the police records are concerned or will it still ring bells with them when they do a check.

Will have to phone insurance company in the morning

i bet they answer the calls with 'hello john, what sthe reg of this starlet then?' lol

doesnt matter if your car is on the database or not, if the police are stupid enough to input the wrong registration when they follow you it makes no difference lol.
apparently my old civic was registered to an elderly couple in norwich, and it was a volvo estate!

i used to work in insurance for a couple of years ish, and i spoke to a few police ppls about insurance and if people were insured or not. all for "age concern" insurance services. old people getting pulled LOL

i think someone once had a guy who wasnt insured. didnt get the rest of the story, it went to underwriting ( in their secret lair on the 3rd floor, behind blacked out windows)

ppl on here have already got the in's and out's spot on, its not something they HAVE to do and is isnt instant. nothing is, is it???

p.s

1 in 10 people in southampton are polish

:) how does that make you all feel???
