I use every gear when upshifting and downshifting. I've also gotten myself into the habit of heeltoeing everywhere :P

Depends how fast I am driving... but I wouldnt use the gearbox to slow down as its extra strain on the transmission.

On a track I brake, sort of heal and toe blip matching speed to gear etc and go down that way but using the brakes to slow the car.

On a road I brake then change to appropriate gear.

Brad your heal toe skills are cool  and as hard as I try it I just cant seem to do it lol

Follow the link I posted about how to do it, and practice (but not when there's someone behind you as braking with your heel off the floor takes some care) :D

Its not that Dan, I usually brake in that manner anyway, or left foot brake, just depends what I am doing at the time.

I just cant get my foot at the angle for the heal and toe. Brad showed me, I think it is mainly because I sit too close to the steering wheel. But then I prefer to be in that position. I'll have a read on the link though. I have compensated with a quick brake, blip to brake which although isnt quite as good still seems to work ok. Would be nice if i could master heal and toe though.

I agree its taken me ages to be able to heal toe but now i've got it I can do it whenever I want, and its just starting to become the "natural" way to do it when I'm driving fast.

I found while learning that I could do it while trying but as soon as I got into the quicker stuff I would forget about it lol

I find it really depends on what shoes you've got on, and also the position of the pedals. Some cars are easier to do it in than others. Honda's are a piece of piss, engines are so responsive they leap to the correct revs and pedals are reasonably close together :D

The throttle pedal on the MR2 is about 1" closer to the bulkhead than the brake and clutch pedals. This means when you're braking you don't need to swivel your ankle up so much to get on the throttle pedal.

Which is nice :D

Leesa's BMW has a floor mounted throttle pedal which makes it a doddle to do.
