found this on another forum i just found out tonight the tiny plate on my car is actually legal the info below states the special concession which is for imported cars which is taken from this link http://www.evo-autotints.com/Numberplates.htm#Import Special Concession for Owners of Imported Vehicles A concession which will permit some vehicles to continue to display motorcycle size number plates was announced on July 31st 2001 by Minister for Transport John Spellar. This will apply to certain imported cars, mainly from America and the Far East. It follows concerns about the cost of modifying vehicles which are designed for foreign markets and unable to display UK size number plates. Minister for Transport John Spellar. said "The introduction of this concession demonstrates that the Government listens and responds to the concerns of motorists. "We have taken into account the views of enthusiasts, vehicle importers and the police. We have been assured that law enforcement agencies will be able to recognise and record the smaller character size. "We are clear that the cost of modifying some of these vehicles, in particular those which originate from the USA, to take standard size plates would be costly and unfair. We intend therefore to allow them to display motorcycle size number plates." Harry Tune, Chairman of the American Auto Club UK, welcomed the announcement: "This really is a milestone in the history of the American car enthusiast in Britain. We so appreciate that a Government department has listened to us and been sympathetic to our needs. "Over 90% of American cars, whether classic or modern, are manufactured with a motorcycle size number plate indent so this concession will benefit thousands of enthusiasts. "I am absolutely delighted at today's news." The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency will commence a short consultation exercise prior to amendment of the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001. The police don't care as they don't know about this!!! or didn't........ I now have a copy of a similar agreement in my car; keep it with me just in case . Got pulled over a year ago and tried to explain, but the "friendly" police officer didn't want to know! "I don't care where your car comes from, but as long and its on UK roads you'll abide by these rules". .......... to$$er. After that incident i tried to get written acceptance from DVLA and VOSA, both of which wouldn't, and purely said "some vehicles are allowed a smaller plate" but they wouldn't tell we which ones...... Gave up after 2-3 weeks of talking to the dumb sh1ts... but if its now widely known and accepted its got to be good news.. Rant over now.

if your indent is for a smaller plate you would mark. so what if i go and buy a panel with a smaller indent, they wouldnt be able to say lot about it because thats the size its made for :S i like where it says about the documents you must provide when buying plates, funny how it doesnt apply when you buy them online, or atleast nobody asks for it. |
