It was a dark and stormy night... inside the studio where Subaru shot its first batch of Impreza STI images. Like the dutiful fanboys we are, Autoblog has already posted on each of the first two pics, a dark head-on shot and a dark rear shot. Here we have a dark 3/4 shot (check out the lightened version at left), and we don't know if it will be the last of the bunch before the Subaru Impreza STI is officially unveiled on October 24th at the Tokyo Motor Show. Hopefully at that time we'll be supplied with some properly lit photographs, and we'll of course have a slew of improperly lit live shots from the unveiling, as well.

More pictures have been released.... The Black one looks gash with those rear "Lexarse" lights but even with the dodgy lights the Silver one looks :afro:

I think they have made it more accessable to average Joe in order to get more sales from the family saloon market.

There will be numerous different versions no doubt, soon enough they'll release a monster!!

or ford focus

It will be interesting to see what it goes like when they put it up against its old adversary the Evo x

Will it be evolution like the 10, or just devolution....

Its a shame as I liked the older scoobs, Type RA's, RB5's and 22b's even the Sti 8 and 9 and specifically the Type 25 which I was sorely interested in for a while. I just love the sound of em.

Roll on the road test :D

Thing is, WRC doesn't seem to be as big as it was 10 years ago when we had TWO quality British drivers in good cars... also the 'chav' culture over the last few years has presumably made Subaru tone down the looks of the more extreme cars. The last RB limited edition was only available in black AFAIK and was quite understated IMO.

People associate big gay wings (sorry Jay :P ) with chavs - this isn't going to sell cars until the Fast and the Furious 4 comes out.

it was black because of richard burns a sign of respect.

i cant see why its a hatchback tho you can dull a car down and then you can total change it! if i was subaru i wouldnt really care who drive the cars they sell as long as people buy them. vauxhall didnt transform ythe corsa because they were being sold to chavs.

i hope they get there act together and sort it out the last impreza looked sweet.

Do they?

People also associate loud exhausts with going fast

People can associate anything.... I think Subaru have been relatively brave exploring new avenues. But I think we are all getting wrapped up in how it looks. that may well appeal to some of you guys, but I think the proof is going to be in the pudding as to how well it drives. I could cope with it looking like a focus or whatever if it was one of the most involving, fun, cars with oodles of feedback that I had ever driven. If it is dull then granted chuck it to one side. I think we should keep the jury out on this one until the road tests are done :)

Agreed.....The reason they have gone for the hatchback is due to the percentage sales of hatchbacks against saloons throughout Europe hence why the yanks will get a saloon version. At the end of the day chances are it will still sound and go like a subaru should do and hopefully with a few extra tweeks.

If the power output is as too be rumoured 330bhp isn't a bad start.
The worst thing at the mo is the gash rear lights.
People who see big wings on imprezas think chavs (but when you drive do you care?)hence why Subaru developed the A Line,a subtle STI.

seems ths Japanese will still be using the 2.0liter engine with over 300bhp and an equivalent amount of torque and weight of approx 1490k.
and ,yes,MR8, if it's behind you ,you're not going to care

Colin is going to turn in his grave if Subaru make a limited edition in his honour out of this ...

Im fairly sure they won't - while he was involved in the sucess that made the impreza what it is today, he hadn't been involved with Subaru for a long time.

I think people would see it as cashing in however they labelled it, where as the latest RB edition was acceptable as Burns was with Subaru when he died.

True DBM, Colin doesn't need a car (althought there already is the McRae series)named after him as he helped make Subaru the brand name it is today

Yep if it wasn't for his sucess when he won in the Legacy, Subaru wouldn't have progressed the Impreza as a WRC car :)
