I have recently aquired a 1996 nissan 200sx turbo,90,000 miles, loads of history,10 months mot, very straight on the body and inside, the only downside is the engine has a slight rattle from the big end bearings. As probably some of you know i have an rx7 which is undergoing serious work for the dragstrip. So what do i do?repair or sell on as it is.How much would it cost to replace the bearings, how long,is it an easy job?i am mechanically minded and have friends within the trade. If i did sell as it is,anyone interested?

Did all this in my project thread , Its not too expensive , But it does depend on the parts u use . Altho i spent enough , I did get alot of work done to lighten and balance some of the components . Depending on the crank needing skimming , It will cost u around 300-500 if u can do it urself . This is only a rouch guide as mine were quite bad and alot of work was needed . Ive got a couple of folders full of the torgue figures for bolts etc , And how to take apart most of the engine. Altho i did have my super Dad Mechanic Stevey |

Probaly down to lack of oil , Seems to be one of the main causes for it . I just went and doug out some of my old bills for the work , I got Gaskets , Bearings , Head bolts and Piston Rings for 318 Quid , but i got this a little cheaper . I also spend about another 50 quid on bolts etc . TBH iam not sure wat there going for atm . My personal opinion would probaly be around the 2000-2500 mark , But probaly best to look on Autotrader or sumthink to get a rough idea . All depends how much u payed for it in the first place , Chances r it wont go for much with rattle , Most people arent willing to get there hands dirty .

are you a s13 or s14? 1.8 or 2ltr? if 1.8 can rebuild but is risky if been driven for a while as would of scored the crank. stevey - did you do it thro bottom up? the best way ive done mine was hoist engine up, undo sump, and go thro the bottom. using crap oil adds to the failure but its due for it if over 80k. be carefull as if driven whilst has the death rattle it will spin the shell and lock up the crank and fuck all you can do. new engine from 247spare.com normally around 400quid and prob nicest way to do it as have warranty. dave |
