You don't need a huge system for a good sound. Spend your money on high quality standard equipment and enjoy the quality rather that stoopid volume ![]() If you get decent gear it will go loud anough for your needs I would think. |

echo rob. all ive done is replaced my headunit with a high spec pioneer, and then changed the standard speakers to some pioneer upgrades all round, tune it all in and it sounds good, putting in a sub ust ruins music in my opinion because all you get is bass, like you say monka if you want to here it all equal then dont get a sub, get a good headunit and change your standard speakers. good place to go is ebay, i got everything brand new unopened through ebay, my headunit for £220 not the rrp of £500+, my front speakers i got for £14.99 (rrp £80), and my rears for £66 (rrp £180). |

Loud music is for clubs, cars are for driving Remember at japshow last year we fancied some tunes in the evening as everyone chills out and most clubs have a car or two with stereos going and we struggled to find one car out of about our 15 that played loud music lol. Eventually went for frampos civic but even taht only had 6x9's. |

I'm not big on sound systems! maybe a small high quality sub in the boot just to get that little bit extra! but nothing massive! |

Ive got a becker mexico pro (head unit), some OZ vector components and a cheap second hand alpine amp. It sounds good, the only thing letting it down is the amp (next upgrade). Cant be more than about 5-10 kilos max, and bear in mind that you take out the old head unit/speakers anyway... Subs, sub boxes and big amps are what really add the weight. With enough power and a bit of effort put in you can get good bass out of front speakers anyway. If you need any help choosing kit i may be able to give you a hand, i know a few bits here and there about car audio. |

Nothing more than an uprated version of the standard setup and a decent head unit as far as i'm concerned for mine. Loading it up with loads of amps, batteries and subs is just going to put the suspension setup out and slow down the car. |

pioneer head unit, fusion tweeters x-overs front and rear components. Got an install in the boot consisting of 2x rockford 200watt subs fusion amp and power cap buts its easily removable for track days. i need a loud system, a 121.8 Db exhaust takes a lot of drowning out lol |

I like my sound systems, but I have been trying to keep the weight down in my 200sx. I still might go for a small amp and 8" sub. I do miss the tunes in the FTO |

I think each to their own tbh. If you wanna chuck a load of subs in the back and go that route great if you just want to improove your current sounds then just upgrade to some better quality speakers. It depends what you want to acheive I suppose. Alot of people who enjoy the odd track day but love their ICE have easy to remove systems as the additional weigh plays havok with the cars dynamics. I havent got around to fitting a stereo in my car yet and I must admit dont really miss it, although I suspect Danni is probably getting fed up with my singing  |

lol, thats the thing, i love music, but at the same time i have experienced how much of a difference weight makes, in my old 106 jus removing the sub and box made one hell of a difference, but then it was a big audiobahn one, on a 200 metre drag strip it made a difference of quarter second, in a 1.4. and the handling was much improved with it out. lol |

Then just build a system that is versatile enough for you to remove when you want to have some fun, or just use smaller weighted bits

I used to have a mate who had a couple of wires sticking out into his boot... When he wanted sounds he dropped in an old Wharfdale house speaker!! Sounded great! |

ive just taken out my 6x9's and amp from my car, ive found there is no need for it. seemed like a good idea at the time, but hey, that seems to be alot of peopls story. Ive got a alpine headunit £160, which works great. £35 for my front speakers and just bought new ones for the rear, £50 off ebay, they are all pioneer 3 way ones (and they are yellow and kezlar woop :P). The best sounding ones i have found for the money tbh. Its weird how little i use it tbh, when i do the trip from uni to home i hardly ever use my 'sound system' |

you can get carbon sub boxes, build the install with that, put the amps under the seat so there weight is in the middle of the car and it wont affect handlig to much, lol my ice system is my works dewalt 9.6v radio ! lieght weight and easily removable plus its mad tite jdm yellow

Im getting fom alot of you guys that u dont really have a powerfull sound install. I on the other hand realising that my mazda is already very slow decided to put a full Pioneer install in. Just a power cap and extra amp to go and it will be finished! I dont bother with tv's though because theyre always on show and easy for people to steal! |

Alot of us are primarily interested in track days, and not altering the cars dynamics by weighing it down with audio equipment which is why alot have just opted for the basics. I have done both with my old integra and had amp, subs and so in the boot and running it around 145 db's. When I removed everything it was surprising how fast and nimble the car became, and i never wanted to revert back as it felt like I was towing something. |

I've just changed my headunit and upgraded the speakers. But I wasn't quite happy with the sound that was giving me. I thought about the sub and amp route. But I decided against it, as it would be a pain to take out when I wanted to go on track. Instead I opted for some 6x9's cut into the parcel shelf. It sounded alot better

Actually, when I'm on my own in the car the stereo is usually off. I just listen to the sounds of the N1 But that's only when the roads are not full of other cars. It's good to have some music when your stuck in traffic. |

I had a set of components in the front of my 1.8 323F and an 18" bass bin powered by a 300W AMP. This weighed alot! I had the above in, the rear seats and boot trims and a passenger (a tame Forumula Ford racer who knew Castle Combe) for my very first track sessions at Japfest. The following year I had some suspension upgrades, no bass boxes/bins, just me in the car, stripped out rear interior and was 10mph of the maximum speed I reached the year before along the start/finish straight! I need a driver upgrade!! There was a hell of a difference in acceleration and handling with the bass bin though ![]() Mark |

I've got a few bits and bobs but nothing that adds major weight. I can take it all out in about 10 mins anyway for track days. |
